“You have the ability to pivot under any and all conditions. But most of you are habitual in nature, and your patterns are so well entrenched that at times the fastest path to the joy you seek is for you to take your pivot as you sleep. By reaching for good-feeling thoughts before you go to sleep and then experiencing the benefit of the quiet mind that occurs while you sleep—and then upon awakening, immediately turning to good-feeling thoughts—you can accomplish the ultimate Pivoting experience.”
~Abraham [Excerpted from the workshop: Money and the Law of Attraction on August 31, 2008]
Pivoting is a cool technique to cultivate. It’s turning your feelings around. When you’re feeling sad, you find things to think about that will make you happy. With intention and practice this can make your day absolutely wonderful. But, as Abraham says, we are such creatures of habit that we tend to stay in the one mood and often spiral even more downward. That tends to be what makes us “happy” – to stay where we are. Even though we profess to not like being in that unhappy state, we don’t seem to want to do anything to change it. Some of that I think is our victimization behavior. We think that it’s the external world that has made us unhappy at that moment and therefore we have no control and it’s the external world that will have to make us happy again. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. The external world doesn’t make us unhappy. We interpret events around us and internalize them and use our emotions to determine whether we feel happy, unhappy or even just neutral (it doesn’t affect us at all). It’s not the world that makes us feel a certain way. It’s the way we interpret things based on our previous experiences.
Since Abraham recognizes that we’re such creatures of habit, he discusses how to get the joy you want. At night, just before going to sleep, you reach for those better feeling thoughts (what I call the “Kodak Moments”) and focus on them as you drift off to sleep. This will work on your spirit and mind while you sleep all night and provide you the joy you seek.
Try this for a week every night and see how you feel in the morning!
