Today is both World AIDS Day and Giving Tuesday! How grand a combination.
Here’s the essence of “Giving Tuesday” (taken from their website): It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.
AIDS is no longer front page news but it still is a significant problem in the world. Here’s some statistics from the CDC about HIV: About 36.9 million people are living with HIV around the world, and as of March 2015, around 15 million people living with HIV were receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART). An estimated 1.2 million people died from AIDS-related illnesses in 2014.
What can you do today to make a difference? Whose life can you touch by giving something, anything? It may be in support of HIV research or it may be in support of something like St Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Or, maybe you can just give a dollar to someone on the street; or give a ride to someone who needs it. You can give of your talents. You can volunteer. It doesn’t have to be big. Just the act of giving will get you in the spirit. It gets you out of yourself as well and then you feel so much better about yourself.
Try it, you’ll like it! Let us know what you did today – write it in the comments below!
