State of The Union

Once a year we hear from the president about how he thinks we’re doing as a country and what direction we should be going in. I’m sure there’s some tradition about it being early in the new year but I don’t really know (or care).

The point I’d like to make today is that as we listened last night to the president’s speech, we were in our “passive” mode. That’s not a mode I prefer to be in for very long (if at all and I’m sure you know what I mean). So, after the speech was over, I decided to be in the active mode and took out a sheet of paper (actually I used my journal) and started writing my own State of the Union. Now, I”m not going to be sharing this with the world – I’m sure they’re not interested. But, for me, putting down what I’ve done and how far I’ve come in the past year and where I want to be and how I’m going to get there was very powerful. I was able to see and be grateful about all my successes – big and small. AND, perhaps more importantly, I saw where I was and where I wanted to be – and I was able to crystalize the general steps I needed to take to get to my desired (or planned) destination.

That’s personal power!

I encourage all of you to take the time in the next few days to create your own STATE of THE UNION Report.

I bet you’ll surprise yourself. We’d love to hear of some of your results or thoughts.

Terrie
