Seasons Change, Caterpillars Change – So Can You

Fall in a park Happy Fall! Yesterday really did feel like Autumn had arrived. It felt cold when I took Jackie out for a walk.  And then when I went out for my long run, it was absolutely gorgeous. The change really started on Saturday though but we all thought it was cool because we had finally gotten some rain. But it was the subtle beginning of a change.

Things frequently creep up on us and maybe we eventually will notice that there has been a change. Often, the change is so gradual, though, that we don’t pay much attention and just morph into this new aspect of our life similar to the life cycle of the butterfly.

The butterfly starts out as an egg.  That’s not so unusual, right? So do we. But when the egg hatches we’d expect to see a butterfly but we don’t – we get a caterpillar, whose primary function in life is to eat (sometimes I wish I was a caterpillar) and grow. That’s similar to us as an infant and child – we are constantly eating (absorbing tons of information about the world and growing with that knowledge but often absorbing faster than we can grow). The caterpillar also has to shed its skin since the skin doesn’t grow with it. We shed our skin too as we move from one stage of our life and “knowing” to another. As the caterpillar eats it gets bigger. We get bigger and hopefully we grow in proportion to the knowledge we are accruing.

The excitement then begins. The caterpillar goes into a stage called a “pupa” – it looks as if it is resting but inside is where all things are changing. How much does this parallel our development. There are times when it appears nothing is happening with us. We often think monarch-emergingwe should be “doing” more – we think we appear lazy. Our creativity seems to be stopping, we feel as if we aren’t going anywhere. Fatigue might set in and we just want to lounge around, “chill out” as it were. What the heck is happening?

With the caterpillar there is a complete metamorphosis. Caterpillars don’t have wings. During this “pupa” stage of change, organs are completely transformed and new limbs and wings develop where there were none before.  If you give yourself a chance and stop criticizing yourself for doing “nothing”, stop stomping on what’s going on and changing inside, the transformation in you will be remarkable. We often call it a spiritual journey but it’s so much more than that. Your thoughts, ideas, philosophies and even beliefs can change dramatically if we just allow ourselves the time and let the process happen deep within.

Then it’s time to emerge as a butterfly, rest and then spread the wings and fly.  This is an amazing process but it’s a tiny, although miraculous, representation of what happens within ourselves – if we let it.

How can you take the caterpillar within you and transform yourself into what you have always wanted to become? Stop moving in a million directions and stop trying to accomplish dozens of things at one time. Sit back, go within, step away from the activity, relax, take time for yourself. Now that fall is here, spend some time on the porch or patio and enjoy life – it’s very short you know. It’s time that we take each moment and revel in it!

Let the butterfly within you emerge with the new you! Let me know what it’s like.

What’s Your “Quality of Life”?

whats quality of life We all hear this phrase from time to time. Sometimes it’s in a discussion involving someone you’re not related to or really concerned with and sometimes it is someone close.

I am dealing with this issue right now with my 15 year old dog, Jackie. She is, it seems, having more bad days than good days. So this past week I’ve had to ask myself plenty of questions about whether I’m just holding on to her (and that’s a big part of it) and how fair/unfair is it to her. The big question everyone asks me when I’m foolish enough to ask for advice, is “what’s her quality of life?” I have to tell you that I have absolutely NO idea of how you determine that in an animal that can’t talk much less how you determine it in a human being.

Before you doze off thinking this is just another doggie post, I assure you it isn’t. It’s a post to get you to look at yourself and your life.

I started thinking about this question “What’s her quality of life?” and all of a sudden I asked myself “What is my quality of life?”

And I’ll turn that right around and ask you the same thing right this minute – tell me “What’s your quality of life”.

We should ask ourselves that every day.  What is my quality of life today? And we should seek to have the best possible quality for that exact moment or day.  Why should this question only be pertinent at the end of your life when stick_figure_balanced_400_clr_7581you can’t do much of anything that you used to do (even though you might have learned to enjoy other things at that point).

I want to live life to its fullest but the way to do that is NOT to wait several years and then ask how things are. The way to do that is for me to ask myself every single day – “What is the quality of my life today? AND what can I do to improve it right now?” Then I’ll take action.

Figure out a plan for yourself every single day – find a way so that at the end of the day you can say that you had the best possible day given all the circumstances. This may involve just smiling more or being interactive with someone at a grocery or even convenience store. Little things can markedly improve your own quality of life and you don’t know how much it might be improving the quality of the other person’s life – in fact, you may never know but you will know that their day is better if you smiled at that person than if you grumbled.

I think this has become more important in light of the recent Navy Yard shooting – those folks went to work like any other day – were they living for the moment or waiting for the next weekend? What about their loved ones? Were they left with not even a “I love you” or were their last moments together complete? Make the most of your time here and do it now.

Make this your morning mantra – “What is my quality of life – RIGHT THIS MOMENT?”

Law of Attraction in Action – Justification

I came across this post by Daylle Deanna Schwartz titled “Law of Attraction in Action – Justification” and thought you’d like to see how other people have worked with vibrations in their clients. You can say one thing but really mean another and your vibration will

loa-in-action_5a

simply reflect what you really mean. Remember that it’s the feelings behind your thoughts that make the difference and put the Law of Attraction into action. So, if you tell people that you keep affirming that you have enough money to pay the bills but deep down inside you’re thinking “yeah, right, I hope it works this time because I have all these bills and I haven’t seen any change at all since I’ve been saying these dumb affirmations”. Ever think that? Ever have any of the reactions that Daylle lists here? We all have – and that’s why we

have thought at times that the Law of Attraction doesn’t work. But it does – it works all the time but it aligns with your vibrations. Your goal is to make sure you work very diligently to keep your inner vibrations on the positive side so that you attract to you more like what you really want. You can even use the “Celebrate the Closeness of the Match” to improve this. You may find that you get something similar to what you asked for but doesn’t match exactly. Well, instead of being critical about the fact that it doesn’t match, celebrate how close it really did come. I ran 7 miles Saturday and although my endurance isn’t where I want it to be, instead of just complaining about that, I rejoiced when I could run up a hill without stopping and especially when I realized it was close to 100 degrees out. So I was happy and that brought my vibration to a much higher level and it will bring me more endurance the next time I go out.

Click here for the complete article.

There are so many Law of Attraction and Abraham-Hicks processes that are simple, yet very effective in changing your vibrations and improving the chances that the Law of Attraction will bring you what you decide you want instead of responding to the lower level vibrations you generate with your essentially defeated thoughts. Check out F.A.V.E. (Focus, Attraction, Vibration and Emotion) and change your life today!

Stories, Stories and More Stories

newspaper navy yard shooting The tragic Navy Yard shooting yesterday brought a few items up for me (that’s where I worked for 9 years before I retired):

  1. I think that people seem to have become immune (or maybe numb/anesthetized) to events like this and that bothers me.
    • It first struck me last week when the news sites had very very little coverage of 9/11. People where I work (on an Army base even) didn’t even bother to observe the moment of silence – not one single moment. That disgusted me.
    • Yesterday as I was driving home there was a talk show (another thing I normally pay no attention to fortunately) and the guy’s primary concern was whether the news folks in Texas should be talking more about the shooting or the fact that we finally got rain. That is really pathetic. He was not even concerned about all the flooding in Colorado. I know we are in the midst of a big drought here but come on – what are the important things in life?
    • Almost none of my Facebook friends even acknowledged the shooting. That made me wonder about my friends. It was all about running and internet business and food and whatever else they normally posted about. Nothing different. Funny that the runners were “all over” the Boston Marathon Bombing but this event seemed “unimportant” to everyone.
  2. I remembered why I don’t watch the news last night. It’s NOT news. It’s a bunch of opinions and slurs and stirring everyone up to be afraid.  Even the one good news story (the raising of the Concordia ship) was minimally covered sitting_on_news_text_reading_paper_400_clr_9470and they emphasized the cost and problems – not the fact that this is the first time this has been done and how it will help lead the way for other salvage operations. The news is supposed to report the facts. I suppose that if they did that, there would be no material for all the time they have to fill. Imagine if they had to fill a full 24 hours every single day with just facts! What a challenge that would be for them. Because I was stationed at the Navy Yard I am somewhat qualified to render an opinion about some of what they reported as “facts”.  These were not facts, they were misinterpretations, they were statements by people who were willing to go on the radio to say stupid, inciteful things just to get some acknowledgement. I remembered why I don’t watch the news.
  3. People all have their stories and they carry them around like a gunny sack of rocks.

If you just concentrated on the facts that occurred yesterday you would be able to make an informed opinion on what happened – if an opinion was/is even required. What are the facts? This man was formerly in the Navy; he worked as a subcontractor and had access to the Navy Yard as a subcontractor; He gained entry to this particular building carrying at least 1 weapon if not more; he opened fire and killed 12 people and wounded several others; he died during this event.

There are more facts but other than for the law enforcement investigators, what difference do they make to you or me? Ok, maybe we “need” to know if it was an act of terrorism and if so, are there others out there that could be planning other events. I’m not sure I “need” to know that as opposed to needing to know if they found out positively that there was other potential danger. Do I need to know about his background and about him working at a restaurant etc? Heck no. What import does that have for me? Not a bit. So why should I clutter up my mind and my thoughts and feelings with all the emotional reporting that is going on about this. These folks are not expressing sorrow and desire to help the families and other victims (those that were frightened at being shot at etc). They are trying to stir people up and get them going – this time it’s once more about gun control. It’s to perpetuate fear. I think people are good enough at creating and living their fears without the help of the media magnifying those fears. I also heard these same news people reporting that if the government shut down in October then in a couple of weeks the US wouldn’t be able to pay it’s bills and would be “broken”.  They snuck that in but you know that’s another fear generating story they are implanting in us.

story wiht baggageWhat stories are you carrying around? I talked about this last week or the week before.  Can you change your past (and even present) stories into “feel good” (or maybe even neutral) stories instead of the bad news stories we make them. Bad things happen but what we feel about them is what counts.  We can replay an event, see it as just a series of facts (without applying/feeling the emotions) and have it be a part of our past – without negative influence. What types of good things can you pull out of that experience once you extract the negative emotions? What have you learned? How has your life changed and how can you change it even more in a positive way.

I’m not discounting how we are affected by events and situations but it’s how we respond and later relive that has to be changed. If you don’t work at changing your feelings about those things, you will continue to be miserable and you will continue to attract more of the same.  We are not taught to “spin” our stories in a positive direction. We are just taught to tell them. Often we go into great detail so that we can tell an “interesting story”.  Consider not even telling your story. Allow it to dissipate in power. Or see if you can write it out or talk it out putting the positive spin on it. Start small and work your way up. It’s a new habit but one that will change your life!

All those that think I went on a rant are free to comment. You are right, it is a rant but there’s also an important metaphysical lesson here if you want to attract more good things in your life.
