Focus On What You Want

focus We’ve talked about focus several times in the last few weeks. But, I really believe you can’t talk about it enough. Problems usually arise because of three things – 1) someone isn’t focused but the thoughts and feelings are scattered all over the place 2) someone focuses on the lack of something or on what they do not want and 3) because a person hasn’t made up their mind what they really want (you’ve heard my story about not manifesting a hybrid vehicle because I couldn’t decide which type I wanted and so I couldn’t get specific enough to place my order to the Universe).

Use the contrast you have in your life to determine what it is you want. Pick the things you want, not the absence of what you don’t want. For example, don’t say “I don’t want any bills”. Instead, say “I have an abundance of money to pay off anything I want to pay and have plenty left over to enjoy my life the way I want to be accustomed to.” Instead of “I don’t want to be sick” or “I want to get well”, say “I am healthy and hearty and can do everything I want to do.” Look at health, NOT healing. So you are picking the positive things you want to focus on.

Then become specific about what you want. If you want to have plenty of energy instead of your fatigue, express that by saying to yourself (and writing down) “I have energy every day, all day and am able to accomplish so much more at work than ever before in my life.” Or, “I have plenty of energy to run a 100 mile race”. You can even use visualization to help you become specific because if you can see it, you can write it down in greater detail.

Make sure you know what you want and then keep your mind on that at all times. Make a treasure board or book so that when your thoughts wander, you’ll be able to bring your mind back to where it needs to be. If you think about this, then that, then something else, the energy is diffused. You want to have laser focus on the thing you want. No matter what else is going on, that’s where your thoughts are to be.

Focus on what you want, not the obstacles or what you don’t want – do NOT allow yourself to be drawn in by the negative aspects of your life. Don’t focus on the lack. Focus on what you’re going to have. Remember that you have manifested it already – once you’ve done the above steps. Now you’re just waiting for the materialization and you have to remember that the law of gestation may be in play as well.

I will give you a personal example. I’ve told you recently that I have epilepsy. I never once thought that that would keep me from getting in the Navy – at least until the day I was driving to the recruiter’s station. I had simply assumed I would be accepted and that there was no reason I shouldn’t be. I never even thought that my epilepsy would be an issue. As it turned out, most people will not be accepted with epilepsy. But I had not allowed that into my thoughts so my positive energy was sufficient to overcome the blockages faced by others. And I got in!

Try to monitor your focusing this week. Pay attention to where your thoughts are going – are they all over the place, are they on positive or negative things? What are you creating in your life? What do you really want to create in your life?

Let us know what’s happening.

Momentum Monday

momentum-monday1“Expectation indicates the juncture between where you are and where you want to be. Where you want to be is your desire, and where you are is your Set-point or habit of thought. And, somewhere in there, is what we would call expectation. Expectation, whether it is wanted or unwanted, is a powerful point of attraction. Your expectation is always what you believe. But the word expectation does imply more what you are wanting than what you are not wanting. It is a more positive word than it is a negative word. But of course, you could expect negatively—and whatever you expect, you will get!”

—Abraham

Excerpted from the workshop: Orlando, FL on December 20, 2003

I think this is a very important point for us to look at. We often do “expect” the worst. That is an expectation and guess what? It will happen since you expect it. You’ve set up the vibrations and the “request” (by thinking about it) and the Universe starts to comply. You have to break that momentum if you want to reverse or at least stop that expectation. But, as usual, it’s all about recognizing that you’re expecting the worst. It’s just as Abraham says – we are at a Set point or habit of thought – that is our beliefs. If we believe we never win anything, we won’t. If we believe that we never get the raise, we won’t. If we believe we’ll get a cold, we will. The belief has been created because we’ve thought about something for a very long time so it’s become ingrained  in our minds. We don’t even stop to question it any more. One event or situation starts it and then it just keeps going on. For some reason we remember the “less than desirable” things (the “bad” things) more than we remember the good. And so whenever more bad things happen, we end up believing that is what ALWAYS happens – a belief develops.

This is why a success journal is so important. And it should be done daily (along with your gratitude journal) because if you wait even a day, you will be less likely to remember the great things that might have happened the day before. Because little good things lead up to great things! And no matter how “little”, it still is a success. It’s important to use this journal as a written memory that you can turn to when things might not be going as well as you’d like. It is also fun to peruse every once in a while to add to your gratitude list.

What are you expecting? Are they good expectations or expectations of things you don’t want.

It’s All About How You Look At Something

how-you-look-at-it-resized  It’s all about perspective. What we see is based on a number of factors.

1) What you’ve been taught (our beliefs)

2) What you’ve learned on your own

3) What you want to see (not always the same as what is really there)

4) The angle you’re looking from

5) Your eyesight – do you need glasses? Are you wearing glasses? Are they clean or do they have dirt on them that might be obscuring the situation/object? You’ve heard the expression about rose colored glasses.

6)  Your needs

7) Your anxiety level or level of calmness

8) Your past experiences

9) Your vision – are you colorblind?

There are many variables that lead to two people looking at the exact same situation and yet seeing it differently. How do you look at things? Are you trying to be objective and understanding? Do you take your time to examine all aspects of what you’re seeing? Do you examine the surroundings, not just the object? What has happened in your past that could be biasing you in your observation of this particular event/object?

People look at illness differently. They look at bills/debt differently? You could say that almost everything appears differently to each individual person. There isn’t much we can do about it except realize that it’s a fact and then make another CHOICE in our lives – make a decision to look at everything from a positive perspective. There are people out there who do just that. Often times we criticize them, calling them Pollyanna or “goodie two shoes” (never did know what that means but it fits here).  But these folks have the right attitude. Make the best out of everything should be our motto every day. Why? Because we want to activate the Law of Attraction to bring us more good things, not bad things.

I got started on this fairly early in my life – again, before I knew anything about the Law of Attraction. I developed these weird symptoms and was treated for a year for something it wasn’t. Finally I was sent to the neurologist who immediately said I was having seizures. That, by itself, was a big shock (but also a relief because now “it” had a name). However, he then told me that I either had epilepsy or a brain tumor and ordered a brain scan (back in the days when that was all they had to examine the brain). When I went back for the results he said I had epilepsy. I was never so happy to hear that diagnosis because it was much, much better than having a brain tumor. I have continued to be grateful all my life for a few reasons. My seizures have been completely controlled since I started on medication and I have had experiences (from the medication) that I have used to help me understand my patients better. I have had overdosages on the medication giving me strange feelings (symptoms) and even once I had to be put in the hospital. These events also helped me with dealing with my patients. If I had not experienced them, I wouldn’t have been able to understand what people go through when they talk to their doctors and the doctors don’t understand or pay attention to them. So, not only was I able to directly help individuals but also teach interns how to be more understanding and patient.

I was happy each time that I was alive and ok and that it would just take some time to recuperate and then I’d be back to normal. Each time I get an illness or injury, I look to see what it is that I can learn from it and how can I help others.

When you look at debt do you see the money you owe as helping others? Try it and try praising the money as it goes out into the universe in order to spread more wealth and abundance across the world. The money is being used to pay individuals even though that may be hard to see when paying big companies. But try to drill down and see the person opening the bill and then another one writing a check for their weekly groceries or being able to purchase school items for their kids, etc. There are so many ways to look at the bills you have and the money you are paying out. If you are blessing it and being grateful that you’re helping others, you will become more prosperous as the Universe returns blessings to you.

Try looking at things differently this week. Take a look, also, at how you’ve looked at things throughout your life. You’ll learn a lot about yourself for sure.

What Are You Spending (Wasting?) Time On?

be patientI’m not trying to be mean with this one – just trying to get you to look at where your energy is going…..no judgments at all, simple awareness.

When you’re focusing time and energy on negative (or less than desirable) things, you are spending time creating more of the same. Is that what you want to do? Always ask yourself that follow-on question. You may surprise yourself and say “wow, I don’t want more of this, this is definitely plenty of that thing”.

Once you’ve realized that you’re going to create more of what you’re focusing on, you can then make a CHOICE as to whether you want to go on in the same vein or completely change what’s happening in your life.

We’ve talked some about CHOICE this week but it’s so important to understand that you can and do have a choice as to how you view life and what happens in your life. I keep reminding you about the Prisoners of War that survive and do well by creating beauty, love and happiness in their minds despite being crammed into horrendous environments. Go inside your mind and visualize what you want in your life and what direction you want to be headed.

Pay attention to what you’re thinking (focusing on) and also what you’re doing physically. Do you come home and just watch TV all night long? If so, what are you watching? Why are you watching TV instead of doing something else. This awareness will reveal a great deal about you – and most importantly TO YOU. You are probably not even aware of WHY you’re doing something. That is the key –  much more than WHAT you are doing. Are you bored? Are you unhappy and lonely? Are you afraid at night and when you’re alone? Are you exhausted? What’s going on inside of you? Once you can identify that, then you can go further and figure out why you’re feeling that way and what to do about it – if you want to do anything at all – remember you have a CHOICE and can simply choose to continue doing what you’ve been doing. That’s ok as long as you’re aware that you made that choice – that it’s no one’s decision but yours. No one is doing anything TO you.

Even if you feel cruddy, you have a choice to continue to feel poorly and wallow in it, or you can do something – rest, go to the doctor, read, force yourself to get up and do something else and see how you feel then, watch a movie, tell a story, write in a journal – perfect time for your gratitude journal. You’re not necessarily looking for some reaction in particular but you’re trying to chronicle how you feel when you do certain activities. If you keep trying different things until you feel better (notice I didn’t say “good”), then that will tell you what it is that you can do in the future to help yourself feel a bit better.

If you’re feeling ok but doing nothing, why? What’s up with that? In my case, I am pretty useless in the evening. Some of that is because I’m bored and don’t have something special to keep me moving mentally and/or physically when I get home from work. But also some of it is because I get up so very early and by the time I get home after work, I’m beat. I have examined this in great detail and know why I don’t do much but I also know that I can do more at night if there’s something that’s worth it. I feel much better knowing what all is behind it. I think we all feel better with some knowledge, especially when it comes to what’s going on inside of ourselves.

Keep a diary for a week or so, write down what you do and what you are thinking about. Then go back and figure out what’s behind the action or inaction. What are you feeling? That’s the key to everything. What are you feeling? You know how people talk about their “gut feelings” – go inside your own gut and listen to what it’s telling you. You are the best physician you know. You know what’s going on inside of yourself. Your feelings will help reflect what’s going on with your body.

It’s just a thought. Try recording what you’re spending your time and energy on. Let us know what you discover about yourself if you want.

Momentum Monday

momentum-monday1“Your mind is a powerful magnet that will attract to you the things you identify yourself with. If you have sad thoughts, you will attract tragedies. If you are a good man, you will attract the company of good people.” ~ Alfredo Karras

“Bad” things happen. That’s a given. But we do not have to concentrate or focus on them. We don’t want to give them our attention because that will do just as Mr. Karras says – it will attract tragedies. There’s the typical momentum issue too. When you continually focus on something “bad” and another “bad” thing comes into your life, then you go “ah geez, what’s up with this? Doesn’t anything ever go right for me? What’s next?” etc. And guess what? Since you’re in a negative space with that vibration, more “bad” things will come into your life.  That’s the magnetic aspect (the Law of Attraction at work).

I continue to put “bad” in quotes because Abraham has taught us that nothing is really bad. It’s the contrast that presents us with choice. If it’s something we’d rather not have or experience, then we know (through the contrast) what it is we really do want. If we didn’t know both sides, we’d be bland and apathetic and not necessarily knowing what it is we really want.

Find the “good” in something that you initially think is “bad”. I can tell you my earliest experience with this and I knew nothing about metaphysics at that time but in retrospect it was so obvious. I did not get into medical school when I first applied and I was devastated. And I didn’t get in the second time either. But, all I can say is “thank goodness I didn’t.” Why? Because I most likely would have dropped or flunked out when I developed epilepsy that took over a year to diagnose. And also because I would not have become an Osteopath which is the very best thing that could have happened to me. I was so blessed that I didn’t get in when I first applied. Of course I didn’t know any of this at the time nor did I have any clue about the Law of Attraction but I just kept marching on toward what I did want. There was the initial disappointment but I got over that and then continued to strive to become a doctor – after all, that’s what I had wanted since I was 4 years old. That determination kept me on the path which eventually brought success into my life.

Look to others to help you find the good in something you might otherwise think is bad. Once you come up with some good aspect, continue to focus on it and try to bring more of the good part into your life by focusing on that!
