Where Are You With Your Goals?

Ok, it’s more than half way through January so I’m wondering where you are with your goals? Or maybe you didn’t set any goals at the beginning of the year? Maybe you’re still working on setting them? Maybe you’re still working on goals you set last year?

I am just asking you to look at your life and where you are and where you want to be. I know that I’m doing pretty well with my goals this year because I simplified them and I was very specific. In addition, I looked at last year and saw that I was all over the map trying to do this, trying to do that and that it didn’t work.  So, this year I narrowed everything down and decided that what I needed most was to focus. Then my job was to decide what I wanted to focus on. Once I did that, I was able to march along without the usual confusion in my mind.

What about you? Do you know where you’re going? Did you actually set goals or just those pesky New Year’s Resolutions? People in the gym business love New Years because their memberships skyrocket. But reports show that by March those well-intentioned people no longer faithfully attend (if they attend at all). That’s because they are resolutions, not well though out and planned goals.

Take a moment to think where you are right now. Let us know in the comment box what’s worked and what hasn’t worked.

What Motivates You To Accomplish Goals

The more I’ve been thinking about my goals, I have realized that it’s really important for me to figure out what I’m going to get out of accomplishing the goal.

Let us help you with your goal setting especially as you begin 2011!

If you focus on what the result is, then you’ll be excited about working toward it. But it has to be something attainable and something your subconscious mind can wrap itself around.

For example, if your goal is to make a million dollars this year and you currently make about 30,000 dollars a year, the goal is probably NOT something your mind can grasp.

Let’s say you make $30,000 a year now and want to make $60,000 next year (that’s doubling and will take work but is most likely something you can believe is doable).

Are Your Goals Really Yours?

Did you ever think that perhaps the reason you haven’t either maintained your New Year’s Resolutions or achieved your goals might be because they are NOT really YOUR goals?

This is a common reason for “failure” or “falling off the wagon” of your goals.

The goals you have made in the past may actually be those implanted in your brain by your parents, your siblings, your peers, your teachers, your spiritual leaders or even society as a whole.

Should You Use Rewards in Your Goal Setting

I was listening to the radio on the way back from swimming this a.m. and they were talking about setting goals for fitness (and of course they also meant weight loss) and how you should reward yourself if you met your goal for that week (for example).

I couldn’t help but think about that and wonder if that isn’t also potentially negative.

Let’s say your goal was to go to the gym 3 times this week or to write 3 articles this week.

And let’s say you set your reward as buying a new book.

My Insights Into Goal Setting

2010 ended much differently than it started for me. and that was a good – no, GREAT thing! What I’m revealing here is pretty private but I think it’s important for you to know.

As usual I started the year (2010) with a goal of taking off weight.  Does this ring any bells with you?

However, as usual, it got derailed fairly quickly. In fact, it was derailed even before the year started.

How could that be? Well, last December (2009) I developed significant back pain that pretty much limited me from doing any exercise.  That really was the pits. There was no way I could take off weight without exercise. And a lot of it. So right away I knew I was doomed. How’s that for setting my mind up for failure?
