Success Is Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

success is stepping out of comfort zone2Do you ever “wish” for success? Wish that you were doing better? Doing as well as others you know? Wonder what you did or are doing with your life? Feeling stuck?

Often we fear success more than we feel failure. “Not me” you’re probably saying – “I’d love to be successful”. But how would your life change if you were successful? What would you have to do differently? Do you think you’ll have to work more? Perhaps, have to travel and be away from home? Stay up later or work weekends? Feel under pressure all the time to have the correct answer without feeling like a fool?

So many things might change if you are successful (or become more successful). Many people are afraid of change and when you couple that fear of change with the other fears I mentioned above, it’s logical that there will be a certain fear of success.

So what? It’s important to accept this fact and then move on. In order to be successful you will have to step out of your comfort zone. That is scary. Right now, you do things the same day after day and even if you have a very busy life, you’re still doing essentially the same things repeatedly.

Success means you’ll have to change the way you’re doing things – maybe even in every aspect of your life. This could be like a person with a brain injury or illness that, once recovered, may have to learn to do everything all over again. That person has no choice. They have to do things differently. You have a choice. At least you have the choice as to whether you want to start this process. This is why the hardest step is the first one.

It all depends on what you want to do.  And how much you want to do it. As with goal setting, the WHY is the most important.

Remember how much I talk about vibration.  You want to get yourself accustomed to the vibration of a new comfort zone.  Take time to focus on what the upside of your success will be. When you see events and start feeling happy with those custom_corner_street_sign_14248upside  thoughts and feelings, capture them as your “Kodak moment” as I like to call them. Then when you’re feeling scared of moving out, recall that Kodak Moment and you’ll be able to raise your vibration to a different plane than fear. In fact, if you can keep focusing on those moments then you’ll be able to keep your vibration there and not have to be constantly stopping/changing the downward momentum. As you start to experience success, you’ll create more moments to focus on. And if you don’t have moments of success right now to use and can’t create some, concentrate on something you did or experienced in the past that will raise your vibration and keep your momentum going in the direction you want it to go in.

Simply put:

  1. Determine what success looks like to you
  2. Determine the “WHY” you want that success – what is it about this achievement that is driving you. Dig deep until you find the strong WHY
  3. See if you can come up with (and write down) the things that you fear/think will change as a result of the success.
  4. Consider asking the 4 questions from  Byron Katie’s “The Work
Step 1 Is it true? (Yes or no. If no, move to 3.)
Step 2 Can you absolutely know that it’s true? (Yes or no.)
Step 3 How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
Who would you be without the thought?
  5. Turn the thought around. Then find at least three specific, genuine examples of how each turnaround is true for you in this situation.
  6. Find your Kodak moment to seize upon when you’re feeling concerned or worried or even thinking about these new circumstances and feel yourself developing momentum in a direction you’d rather not go in.
  7. Use the Kodak moment(s) you’ve picked whenever you start to work on your achievement or whenever you start to feel antsy.
  8. Use the special phrase along with the Kodak Moment (or in place of) “Nothing and nobody can interfere with my prosperity, my well-being, my peace of mind, not even myself” – just keep saying that over and over again until you’re in a better space and have stopped obsessing about the bad things at least for that time being.
  9. Reassess your comfort zone each week and start the process over because by now you have stepped out of your comfort zone and have a new set of parameters to work with (and worry about unless you apply this practice). This phase is often called rinse and repeat.
  10. Journal all these things. Our minds play tricks on us frequently and you don’t want to lose the wisdom that you’ve gained.
  11. GET A COACH!

Try this process and  slowly step outside of your current comfort zone and create a new one.

Let me know how it goes!

Should Your Doctor Talk To You About The Law Of Attraction At Your Next Visit?

LOA-doctorThe Law of Attraction is ALWAYS operating in our world (and everyone’s world) whether we’re aware of it or not. What we focus on is what comes in to our lives. And what we HAVE FOCUSED on in the past comes into our lives too. Instead of the saying “you are what you eat”, we should accurately substitute

You are what you THOUGHT!

We often either neglect the effect of emotions, feelings and vibrations on our well being or we tend to think the Law of Attraction only applies to certain aspects of our life, such as “abundance” or “prosperity”. Naysayers of the Law of Attraction say that it’s wrong to focus on money and wealth, interpreting that this is the meaning of prosperity and abundance. But both prosperity and abundance include all aspects of well being, NOT just money. Abundance can refer to health, wealth, peace of mind, love, relationships, any part of your life. Same goes for prosperity.

Thus, it stands to reason that your health can be definitely impacted by what you’ve been thinking. This can be in the form of stress about your job, stress about your financial situation, or it can take the shape of worrying about contracting a certain disease or illness.

Many people, however, do not want to hear that they may be the cause of their condition. After all, that would then mean “it’s all in your head” and no one wants to believe this. But let me talk to about the difference. Psychosomatic illness is a phrase that people cringe at when someone utters it. But it’s so applicable to every single disease of condition you have. What it means is that your body (somatic) responds to your thoughts (psycho-).  This has been proven and it makes sense to anyone who understands the Universal Laws, including the Law of Attraction.

So, to me, it’s logical that Law of Attraction questions SHOULD be a part of the history and physical and discussion that your physician takes when you come to his office. A couple of weeks ago I had to complete a new patient questionnaire and it contained 135 questions. Not ONE of them had anything to do with how I was feeling, what I was worried or stressed about, what I had been thinking of for the few weeks before going to see someone. All of these are pertinent to figuring out what is wrong with the patient as much as all the lab tests they do.

Why are these questions and concepts so important? Your doctor can prescribe you tons of medicines and get many tests but if he or she doesn’t dig deep into what’s behind your symptoms, they will continue even if they are toned down by the medicines. This means it’s liable to return once this exacerbation is “cured”. If you don’t get the splinter out of the foot, it will continue to fester and hurt no matter how much you drain it.

There are also other considerations – what is the “up side” of having something wrong with you? You need to answer that and your doctor should pursue that too. If it’s not identified, then the condition is likely to persist. I have told this story before but it bears repeating. When I was an intern, I dreaded going on my pediatric rotation because I didn’t like kids. I had thought about how much I disliked kids and didn’t want to do the rotation for a long, long time. Interestingly, the week before I was due to rotate onto pediatrics I started getting sick. I was never sick. But, believe it or not, I had developed pneumonia – showed up on the x-ray big as life. As such, I was excused from the first 7-10 days of my rotation. Did I know that was why I got sick then? Heck no, and this was not a well known topic at that time either. It wasn’t until many years later that I realized what I had done. And yes, I did it to myself. I caused myself to get pneumonia. I know there are many other times this has happened as well but none so obvious as that example.

Some of us are prone to accidents and musculoskeletal injuries. These folks are often having too much going on in their lives and they want to be immobilized and prevented from moving forward. The best way for that to occur is for your muscles, bones and joints to be affected.

Often people who develop serious illnesses such as cardiac disease or even cancer have a long history of being concerned about getting it especially if it runs in their families. They feel it’s inevitable and that puts their vibrations right there to attract that to you. None of this is intentional and no one should either rebel at this theory or kick themselves saying they should have been able to prevent it. It’s a philosophy that is coming more into acceptance as the days and months go by.  There are so many programs that involve alternative or complimentary medicine and energy medicine, all of which should be incorporated in your armamentarium for conquering illness and injury.

It’s my thought that a physician should be able to discuss this with their patients and try to get to the root of everything. But, from personal experience, I know that patients get upset if they hear things they don’t want to hear about. There lies the dilemma. These are also the same people who will complain about their doctor not paying enough attention to them. If a doctor is afraid of the repercussions from addressing these issues, why should they bother in this litigation minded populace. It appears that it’s going to be the patients job to work on finding out what’s going on inside of them and being as honest with themselves as they can be.

Look inside whenever you develop any symptoms. What’s going on in your life? What are you concerned about? What has been going on in your family or at work? What are your beliefs? Ask yourself the hard questions and then be honest with the answers.

What Story Are You Telling?

book_character_reading_400_clr_9091What? What the heck are you talking about Terrie? What do you mean by my “story”?

Everything we talk about is in story form in one fashion or another.

There are facts and there are stories that revolve around those facts. The stories vary from person to person. Look at so-called “eyewitness” accounts. They can differ dramatically. It’s all about interpretation. You’ve heard “perception is reality” I’m sure. Well that is true.

And there is a definite vibration surrounding your story. So why not tell the story the way you wanted it to be? “But that would be lying” you say. Not really. You can talk about facts without putting lower level vibrations (also known to some as “negative” vibrations) into them. Let’s take a recent example that I mentioned Sunday about not getting into the 100 mile endurance run I wanted to get into.

Facts:

  • I prepared really well:
    • I wrote in my gratitude journal that I got into this event
    • I had no other activities planned for that day until after the sign up time
    • I rebooted both of my computers and shut down everything that would use up resources
    • I was online on both computers on the right site so that I just had to click refresh
  • I clicked refresh repeatedly when the registration link did not show up
  • I repeated this action for 30 minutes, never getting a live registration link
  • I did not get into the event

Stories:

  1. It’s just not fair that I didn’t get in. I did everything right. It must be fixed so that only certain people get in. Why couldn’t I get in. It’s not fair. They don’t want people to participate unless they are specially chosen. I can’t do anything right. This must mean that all this Law of Attraction and gratitude stuff doesn’t really work. I’m so hurt, sad, disappointed, frustrated. I’m really mad I wasted my whole Saturday.
  2. I didn’t get in. There is a reason and it’s one I can’t see right now but I know that “everything always works out for me” and this will too. I had considered whether the dates of this event were too close to the more important 150 mile event I am going to do for MS so maybe this is the Universe’s way of confirming that. It also means I can find other events to run in. I just have to look and will find something even better for me.

See how the facts are pretty straight forward but the two stories are completely different? And there are multiple variations on the story that I could have written.

Which story do you want to tell? Practice changing your story. We’ll talk more about this later this week but right now it’s time for a run!
