What’s Behind Your Resistance To Tithing

What’s Behind Your Resistance To Tithing?

Even though in ancient times, tithing was a part of life and was ingrained as the first thing to consider in someone’s life. However, in modern times, people have sometimes have a psychological block against tithing. This is probably because the church leaders have tended to emphasize what tithing will do for the church, instead of what it will do for the tither.

Look up tithing promises in the Bible (e.g. Malachi 3:10). You’ll discover that the Bible assures you that it is the individual that will be prospered, protected and blessed through tithing. It really is all about the tither, not the recipient of the tithe.

Most people have not been taught that tithing is a dynamic personal prosperity method. Once you look at that and not as a “burden” or a responsibility inflicted on you by the church, your prosperity will flourish.

One man and his wife in Texas learned this success principle when the man was out of work and had several children and his wife to take care of. They only had $50 left but they decided as an act of faith to write out their tithe check for $5.00.

Almost immediately he found a position with an engineering firm.  They continued to tithe over the next few years and amazingly his career turned to the oil business. New opportunities presented themselves in abundance. In less than ten years they went from their “last dollar” to a net worth of well over one million dollars.

Another man in Montana reported: “I had been practicing all the laws of prosperity – except total tithing. I had felt I could not spare that much. But from my recent studies, I realized I could not afford NOT to give God His full tenth of everything I received, if I wished to permanently prosper. Since I have done this, I have been blessed far more than I could have ever thought possible.”

Look around you – if you have friends or acquaintance that are completely/totally prosperous ask them if they tithe. Are there others you know who do NOT tithe – look at the various areas of their lives. It’s important for you to overcome any resistance you may have to tithing. Perhaps it’s been this “obligation” as opposed to being something you choose to do.

Look at your limiting beliefs. Is resistance to tithing based on a limiting belief!

My “Gratitudes”

My “Gratitudes”

I may have shared this before but it’s never too late to reiterate it since it was such a powerful moment in my life.

I have always been a big proponent of the power of gratitude but I don’t think I ever really applied it with a strong “need” before the spring/summer of 2004.

You see, I had just been “blessed” by getting a job offer in San Antonio – I was living in Virginia then.

Let me digress a bit and explain that part of the story. I was in the Navy and had been for almost 30 years. In 1985 I had been stationed in San Antonio and absolutely loved it. In fact, that was where I became exposed to New Thought. As I was transferred to the East Coast I declared “I’ll be back here” – my friends laughed at me because there weren’t any other Navy opportunities for me in San Antonio.

But, over the years I held on to that idea in the back of my head. In 2003-2004 I began to talk to my friends in Virginia about a non-profit organization that I want to start. They would ask where it was going to be – out of nowhere I replied “Texas” – I have no idea why I said that – usually those types of responses are the ones you must pay attention to.

Anyway, in the spring of 2004 I was at a conference and my boss forwarded me a notice of a job opening in Washington DC (where I was already working) doing the SAME job I was already doing and had been for 11 years. Of course, my interest was peaked. For once, fortunately, I scrolled down and you won’t believe what popped up right up in front of my eyes. There was the same job offer in SAN ANTONIO, Tx – right where I was stationed 20 years prior. Imagine my joy at this.

However, I never imagined I would get the job so I did a very sloppy job of filling out the application, hit send and forgot about it. Several weeks later I received a phone call and the conversation went something like this “Everyone here loves you, Terrie and the job is yours” – how’s that for an interview? The Universe was really working for me. Of course, I said ‘yes’!

So, I flew to San Antonio to try to find a house. I had two dogs and had certain things I wanted to have in my property – I’ll tell you about my “outside access” manifestation in another post. I had four days to find a house. I wasn’t being successful. My realtor was wonderful and she drove me around looking at this place and that place and on and on. Nothing was right. I can’t even remember the reasons they weren’t right but I was getting desperate because I had to return to Virginia and had to start getting ready for my retirement from the Navy and a move to San Antonio, Tx! But, things didn’t seem to be working.

Then I began to question whether or not I should do this, whether or not it was right for me, was I acting too impulsively, etc. I even went so far as to talk to my boss and tell him I wanted to withdraw my request for retirement. Fortunately he told me he didn’t think that was going to to be possible – however, that just increased my anxiety.

So, the next to last night I was to be there, I laid down on my friend’s couch and all these horrible things were going around in my mind. What to do?

Suddenly it came to me. I started to say my “gratitudes” – I remembered that gratitude was the most powerful “action” anyone could take. I told myself that I had nothing to lose so I started in my anxious state to just be grateful for simple things – things that were easy to come up with – my mother, my father, my life in the navy, my health etc. I said “I am grateful for…..” over and over until I fell asleep very calm and serene.

The next morning I woke up still calm and relaxed, I knew things were going to work out – and they did. I found the house of my desires that day. As soon as I walked in that door I knew that this house was meant for me. But more about that in another post.

The primary point here (other than the power of manifestations) is that being grateful and showing that gratitude to the universe brought me everything I needed and wanted at least 10 times over. It took away all the external anxiety and as a result, all the internal anxiety. It allowed a direct route to me from the Universe. It was like a laundry chute. The Universe poured all that good into the chute and once I had said my “gratitudes” I opened the door and put the laundry bin under that chute and all those wonderful, good things fell into my life.

So, next time you’re feeling anxious, try saying or writing your “gratitudes”. You can use the Gratitude Journal that I had made for this purpose. It really works and it means lot to be able to look back and see what it glorious things have happened to you..but the fun part is to also record the small things, the things that happen everyday – “I found a parking space up close to Target” for instance. “I didn’t hit one red light on the way to work this morning” – anything you’re grateful for – put it down.

Enjoy the power of gratitude!

Catherine Ponder’s Creative Law of Prosperity

There are three basic steps in the Creative Law of Prosperity:
1) Having a plan, writing out your desires concerning that plan and constantly expanding it
2) Mentally imaging that plan as fulfilled
3) Constantly affirming its perfect fulfillment

Without the first part, the other two are ineffective.

Today we’ll talk about this first step – desire and the ability to do something constructive about that desire.

There is nothing weak or lukewarm about true desire. It is intense, powerful. If it’s properly developed and expressed it carries with it the power for success. The stronger your desires for good, the greater the power of your desires to produce that good for you.

How can you release your deep-seated desires for prosperity and success? By centering your attention on one big goal at a time. One big goal always includes a number of small desires that are automatically fulfilled went he big one is achieved. We influence people and events by having great desires and great goals.  It is as though everything and everybody subconsciously tunes in on our big desires and goals, and gets busy helping us to achieve them.

Use this affirmation “I desire the highest and best in life, and I now draw the highest and best to me.”

Write down your desires:
Take your deep-seated desires and, instead of suppressing them as impossible dreams, begin expressing them constructively by deciding what they really are. Then doing something very simple but very powerful about them – WRITE THEM DOWN.

Make a list or draw up some potential plan (make sure you remember you are free to change, revise, reform and rearrange your ideas about it as necessary). Writing out your desires and formulating a plan on paper clarifies the desires in you mind and the mind produces definite results only when it has been given definite ideas through which to work.

Don’t be afraid to be definite in your thoughts and desires. Don’t just say you want to live better – say HOW you want to live – what does “better” mean to you. Instead of saying you want “more” money – how much money do you want – get specific, get definite. “Desire is God tapping at the door of your mind, trying to give you greater good.” ~Dr. Emilie Cady.

If you suppress those deep desires, they have no constructive outlet and often turn into destructive channels expressed as neurotic tendencies, phobias, tension or perhaps as suppression that finds outlet through alcoholism, mental illness, addiction, other negative actions.

Now you’ll begin to see why Catherine Ponder is the First Lady of New Thought!

What are Denials & How Do They Fit In?

Ok, now that you’ve identified your limiting beliefs, now what?

Well, it’s time to start changing them and turning them into positive beliefs.

The way we start doing that is with denials.

Denials are considered the face washing, or clearing and cleansing process. “If you’re building a house, you have to clear the land first.” This is the purpose of denials. You’re clearing the land. Denial is the first practical step toward wiping out of our minds the mistaken beliefs of a lifetime. We declare not to be true a thing that seems to be true.

Do these denials for a week. Emma Curtis Hopkins, who is one of the greatest of the early teachers, had her students do denials for one month before they went into a new class. Believe me, it pulls things out of the subconscious that you don’t know are there.

It pulls things out like anger, hostility, resentment, from the time you were very small until now. It pulls out things that you wish you hadn’t been upset about at the time like the thoughts, feelings, and anxieties you had that could have come from something way in the past.

Some of the denials that we use are, “There is no anger in me. Therefore, I do not attract people who are angry. There is no hostility in me. Therefore, I do not attract people with hostility. There is no fear in me. Therefore, I do not attract people who are fearful.”

We don’t know what is in our subconscious. This week I want you to do the denials. Read them over preferably twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. See what that brings up out of your subconscious.

I don’t want you to do anything about that except look at it and say, “Oh my goodness, I didn’t know that was there. Thank you for showing it to me.” At that point, you can let it go. You realize that you’ve been holding on to something that did not concern you, that did not belong in your life and has just been sitting in this big sea of stuff in your subconscious.

Suppose you grew up believing that the sun moved around the earth, and someone now showed you that the opposite is true.  You would accept the demonstrated truth, but still, at every sunrise or sunset, the old idea would come up, seeming almost too real to be disputed.  The only way to cleanse your mind of the old impression would be by repeatedly denying the old beliefs.  You would say over and over to yourself, whenever the subject came up in your mind, “This is not true.  The sun does not move around the earth; the earth moves around the sun.” Eventually, the sun would only seem to be moving.
Similarly, it appears that our bodies and circumstances control our thoughts, but the opposite is true.  Our thoughts control our bodies and our circumstances.  So, if you repeatedly deny a false or unhappy condition, it loses its power to make you unhappy.

Remember – Denials are considered to be the cleansing mechanism, or, the method of rejecting opinions and/or negative beliefs that prevent our desired good from coming to us.

Denials for use the first week.

I am not afraid.

I am not angry

I am not poor

I am not sick

I am not insecure

I do not believe in  suffering

I do not believe in hard work

I do not believe in poverty

I do not believe in struggle

I do not accept limitation of any kind

I do not accept other peoples negative beliefs

I do not  accept lack in any area of my life

Gratitude, Tithing & Seed Money

banner_left
I have to write this because I’ve had such a great last two days (Thursday and Friday) – when I was in the DC area I was actively involved in supporting St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They had annual radiothons for fundraising. Imagine my surprise when I arrived in San Antonio (the 8th biggest city in the US at that time) and there were no radiothons..horrors. I missed being “involved.
Well, imagine my surprise again the other day when I was in the shower and heard the country radio station that I listen to announce that their radiothon was going to begin in a half hour. I was ecstatic. So, while at work I listened to the entire two days of the radiothon and felt alive again. I was able to give alot and support alot. San Antonio raised over $300, 000 in our very first radiothon AND we had over 1000 partners-in-hope sign up as well. How cool is that.
So, what about the title of the post. Could I consider the money I donated a tithe? No, I can’t. That was seed money. A tithe is given to the source of my spiritual support. Even though I feel terrific after donating to St Jude, the hospital is NOT the source of my spiritual support/supply. So, therefore it is not a tithe.
Seed money is what you give to the universe (in this case via an organization that does so much good for parents and children when a child has been stricken with a catastrophic illness). It is placed out there and will come back to you often in the form of divine surprises. But with that money you’re planting the seed of good and as we know, that good will return multiplied and running over.
You MUST tithe or your spiritual supply will dry up. That’s a fact. In fact you MUST tithe and you MUST express gratitude in order for your prosperity faucet to pour forth!
I’m still ecstatic….
