Emmet Fox – “The Cafeteria”

As you may have noticed, I love Emmet Fox and his delightful life lessons…. You’ve heard us talk about the fact that you have to take ACTION in order for things to work. “The Art of Making Things Happen” shows you the action steps you need to take.

The Cafeteria

by Emmet Fox

Don’t wait for something to turn up. Don’t be content to let things drift along, hoping for the best. it is not spiritual to ‘put up’ with inharmonious conditions. If the conditions of your life are not to your liking, you must get to work on your own consciousness and, by raising that above the outer picture, cause those conditions to become something nearer to your heart’s desire. And you must keep on doing this until you find your True Place.

I had an amusing experience when I first came to America. Passing an attractive looking restaurant, I went inside, and, selecting a table, sat down and waited. Strangely, as it seemed to me then, nothing happened.

I sat there and continued to wait – indefinitely as it seemed. I couldn’t understand the reason for this neglect. All around me, people were enjoying their food, and only I was left out in the cold. After a while the truth of the situation slowly dawned on me – it was a cafeteria. (This system had no yet made its appearance in England in those days.)

I then quickly realized that while there was plenty of food of every kind to be obtained, one had to go forward and claim it for oneself, or go without.

The universe is run exactly on the lines of a cafeteria. Unless you claim – mentally – what you want, you may sit and wait forever. Of course, you should not claim in detail – that is outlining – but you must positively claim health, harmony, and True Place, if you really want those things.

I don’t know about you but this story changed my outlook on how to make changes in my own life when I first read it. I guess that’s because it’s so easy to understand. I hope this short story has helped you as much as it did me.

If you want more to help you shape your life, try out “The Art of Making Things Happen” and while you’re there you’ll be able to pick up your free audio answering your questions on how and why things have been happening in your life and those of your friends and family.

Emmet Fox – "No Waiting"

These past two weeks I’ve been talking about “The Art of Making Things Happen”. Of course I want you to go over and take a look and see what it is you’ll be missing out on but I also want to give you information and examples of how learning How to Make Things Happen will dramatically change your life.

More Emmet Fox of course. What he is trying to tell you is that you have to take action. Things won’t happen from outside you. You have to make the changes inside.

Remember what we’ve said about how there is that energy out there surrounding you. It’s just waiting for you to place your order for what you want. You don’t just go into a store and say “I want a car”.

First, you have to decide which car dealer you want to go to. Then you have to tell the sales person what details you want. The Universe is the same. That energy surrounding you is just waiting for you to tell it what you want!

No Waiting

by Emmet Fox

Don’t wait about for God to act dramatically- because He won’t. If you want anything to happen, you must bring about a change in your own mental outlook, whereupon your outer experience will automatically change to correspond. When people expect a dramatic miracle from the outside, they are really hoping to change conditions without changing themselves- to get something for nothing, in fact, and that would be a violation of Cosmic Law.

Don’t wait for God to tell you what to do from the outside-He won’t. People have said to me, ‘Well, I am ready. Whatever God wants me to do, I am ready. If He wants me to go to California, or to Europe, or to start any work for Him, I am ready.’

Such people, I have noticed, are apt to go on ‘being ready’ indefinitely without anything ever happening. The fact is that they are waiting for a dramatic experience such as came to Moses on Sinai, and to Paul on the road to Damascus. Or probably they expect a Western Union boy to arrive with a telegram of instructions from heaven. None of these things will happen.

If you are really ‘ready to do God’s work,’ you will have a clear idea of what you are going to do and how you propose to go about doing it, and probably you will know approximately where you are going to do it too. This is being ready. If you do not have any definite desire or plan, then you are not ‘ready’; so don’t deceive yourself but get ready by treating for guidance. Treat for guidance, inspiration, wisdom, and right activity, until you have a clear, vivid, and whole-hearted enthusiasm for a definite plan. Then you will really be ready to do the Lord’s work, and if you vitalize your plan with unceasing treatment, nothing can prevent your success.

This little story should spur you into some sort of action. You really can change your life and turn things around.

Read on and see what I mean

THE OBSTACLE IN OUR PATH

In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it.

Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road.

After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many others never understand.

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one’s condition.

How Has Your Background Affected You?

In “The Art of Making Things Happen” you’ll find that one of the first steps in achieving your well-deserved success is uncovering your limiting beliefs. Today Dr.Kunath shows you how your backgrounds affect you!

“All of us know that as we were being raised, we heard a lot of things that we no longer believe. Unless we evaluate and tell ourselves, ‘I have a choice,’ and, ‘I don’t want to believe that anymore,’ we don’t have to believe all of the
things about sickness, family and ideas. Knowing that we have a choice now to be in control, we understand it is not relative to our past.

We have thoughts, feelings and ideas of ourselves that our relatives, especially our older brothers and sisters, have told us we are. I had an older brother that told me I was too little, not big enough to do anything. It took a long time after I reached adulthood until realized he didn’t know anything.

Everything he thought I couldn’t do, I was doing better than him.

That is the kind of thing we have to look at in the metaphysical and the divine science. We are more absolute on what we believe and what we don’t believe.

We heard many things in religion. Most of us came from an orthodox Christian religion that told us all the things we had to do, or else. That ‘or else’ could mean we were going to be punished, or going to hell, or that we wouldn’t get into heaven.

We were told many things about races, which races were good and which weren’t so good, and the evil of the races. A whole new idea that any one of a particular race was a particular thing. This is not true, either. We have negative in every race. We have positive, rich and poor in every race. We have everything according to the beliefs of the people within it.

It’s the same thing with nationality and location of people. Terrie and I tease about this. She’s from the North and I’m from the South. Sometimes we don’t understand what each other is saying because we have different words for different things.

If you stop and listen to some of these words, look them up in the dictionary, you will discover that there are a lot things we really don’t understand the meaning of.

How much we want to change is when you decide some of the words, ideas and opinions aren’t the way they should be. We talked about opinions before. There’s a difference between opinion and facts.

Opinions are deciding on what you believe based on information you’ve received. Much of the information that we receive is not accurate.

The information that all races, conditions and people are a certain way is not accurate. We put people in a category and give them labels. When we stop giving people labels, we’ll find it’s a much nicer world.

We evaluate when we heard these words. It is defaming in some way, or a negative attitude or feeling that happens. Do we want to change that or not? If you want to change, you become more aware of what’s going on.

Know and understand what you’re doing and where you are in life, depending on what kind of success you want to have.”

Do you want to know more about how to change your past beliefs?

This information is pertinent no matter what point you’re at in your metaphysical education.

The Art of Making Things Happen” is jam packed with all the steps you need to identify and examine those beliefs you have instilled in you from the past and then figure out how you want to change them.
