Momentum Monday

momentum-monday1“Don’t do anything that you don’t really want to do. Keep yourself in a place of feeling good. Reach for the thought that feels better — and watch what happens.” —Abraham [Excerpted from the workshop: Boston, MA on October 10, 1999]

Sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do but is it that we don’t want to do them or we’d rather be doing something else? Either way, we really shouldn’t be doing something that we really despise. That will bring us down and our vibration down.

If you find yourself in a position where things aren’t feeling the best, try to reach deep to find something about the situation that you can hold onto that would make you feel better. That’s “reaching for a better feeling thought.” It might even be something simple like “I’m so glad I have a home and a great family” or even “I love my dog. I’m so lucky.” Let me give you an example. Right now is the first time in 5 years that I haven’t been able to do any form of exercise for several weeks. At times, it starts to get to me and I start to imagine and worry about how “out of shape” I’m getting and how lucky everyone else is that I see running along my street. But then I slap myself and say “stop it. You are healthy and you can use this time to exercise your mind and allow your body to regenerate, Terrie.” I then stop and realize that there are always life lessons in everything that happens to me (and to everyone for that matter) and it’s my responsibility to identify what those lessons are and do something productive with them. When I move to that type of thinking, I actually get excited thinking about it. My vibration moves from really down (with the potential for spiraling further and further down that rabbit hole) to an upward momentum of excitement and curiosity.

You can do this with any situation you’re in. Stop and assess where you are and maybe where you could be if you allow yourself to continue that line of thinking. Do you want to continue to go in that direction? If not, then find something, anything that can help you feel different. It may not be a massive upward swing in your attitude but as long as it’s an improvement and a “better feeling thought”, you’re on your way to changing your life for the better!

What Good Does It Do To Complain?

complainDo you like to be around complainers? Probably not. They tend to bring us down and that doesn’t feel very good.

Think about your answer to my question next time you start to voice a complaint about someone or something. Then, change what you say or maybe even just how you’re saying it.

Whenever you complain, you’re really attracting more of the same, the stuff you’re complaining about, into your life. That’s the way the Law of Attraction works. Do you really want more of what is you’re not happy about? No, of course not. Often, it’s just a habit that keeps you operating and talking in that complaining manner.

It’s our responsibility to identify the habit, figure out what’s behind our continuing to practice the habit and then determine what we want to and what we can do about it.

I imagine that after reading this post, you’ll be more attentive and will be better able to identify the habit – it will stick being miserable or happy is a habit - the choice is yoursout at you pretty strongly next time you start to complain about something. It will be like a neon light going off in your face. Ok, great, so you’ve done step 1 – identifying the habit.

Now, on to what’s behind it. That could be as simple as hanging around people who complain all the time. Or, perhaps it’s the environment you grew up in (family). Think about that for awhile. Or, is it that, in the past, you’ve only gotten attention when you’ve been complaining about something. You’ve never gotten the attention you desire just by saying how great things are or how happy you are. Take a look at the news – why isn’t there really any “good news” papers or TV news reports? People, for some reason, don’t want to hear good things. They fixate on the bad stuff that’s going on in the world. Maybe that makes their life circumstances feel better. Or, maybe it’s just morbid curiosity? Whatever it is, it’s not healthy for us to just listen to all the bad stuff and the end of the world type reports they broadcast. There is no need or benefit from playing the same horrid stories over and over again even though we often find ourselves tied to the TV watching them repeatedly.  What is it that makes us do that? Try to figure that out in your own self and see if that will enlighten you as to why you continue to complain.

Perhaps you think that others will think you’re boring if you talk about the good stuff or put a good spin on things. After all, if others don’t want to see/hear good stuff in the news, why would they want to hear that stuff from you? Maybe, you want to “fit in” and since everyone else is complaining, you feel you have to do. It’s also pretty easy to fall into that trap since you don’t have to do much “work” to come up with a complaint. Sometimes you might actually have to put some effort into it to come up with something good, though.

Now that you’ve figured out why you continue to practice the habit, make a conscious decision to decide to either stay in that mode (and attract more bad to yourself) or to change it.

Once you’ve made that decision, things get a bit easier. Your RAS (reticular activating system) will be activated and you’ll be alerted each time either you start to complain or you’re around someone who is. That may be the first place to start. Either remove yourself from the presence of those other complainers or, if that’s not possible, do some inner work. Negate the complaint coming from another’s mouth. Tell yourself that that’s not true and that everything always works out for you. Find the good in that situation whether it’s for you or about the other person. The ideal solution is to remove yourself so that you’re not having to combat those thoughts. See if you can create a new habit or find a new location to hang out. This could create some great new opportunities for you and perhaps even change other aspects of your life. Changing your patterns often opens better doors for you!

Make a resolution to turn a potential complaint into a compliment every day. Whether this is at work or at home it doesn’t matter. It’s the action of making a conscious decision that changes the momentum and vibration. Try this for at least a week and see how things change by the end of that week. How are you feeling? What’s happened in your life? Then extend that to changing two complaints a day and so on. If you find yourself having some difficulty with this, try to just consciously express gratitude for things in your life every day – write them down. The actual act of writing is so powerful. Expressing gratitude will help put you in the anti-complaint mode sooner than you think. But it might be easier than initially having to turn a complaint into a compliment or a positive. See what works for you and then combine the two.

Doing this simple identification and change process will put you on a different plane in no time at all!

Let us know what you discover.

The Grass is Always Greener

grass is always greenerThink about this…and be honest too! How often has this been proven true in your own life? I know it’s been my way of thinking in the past.

Is there anything wrong with this way of thinking? Not really….BUT….when you’re always looking over the fence – at something you don’t have and wishing you had it, you are wasting your life.

For some reason our perception of what’s “out there” on the other side, or, what we MIGHT be able to attain is more attractive than what we are experiencing right now.  Maybe our current situation is boring (or just “there” because nothing is different). We arrange our life in a way that’s comfortable to us. We all like routine and we like to have things in a certain way.

But then there is that part of our brain that thinks that something that’s “out there” is better than what we have. So we wish for that thing without knowing anything other than how it APPEARS from our distance. It’s judging a book by its cover and wanting to pick it up and buy it – without even reading on the cover or initial pages to see if it’s really something we’re interested in.

Did you ever order something you just “had to have” and then when you received it, it was no big deal? It wasn’t the “thing that changed the world” like it seemed when you ordered it – the “thing” you couldn’t live without.  I think it’s our anticipation of something and what we imagine it will be or what our lives will be like if we have it (or achieve if it’s a goal). We are very good at imagining but then there’s a let down when our “order” finally gets here.

There is a lesson from that last paragraph that’s so important to think about. If we can imagine how great our life will be or how great something will be, then we can enjoy our life right now even without actually having the “thing” in our possession. Abraham always talks about feelings and vibrations. You can capture the joyous feelings you experience when you think about having something and feel them in the “NOW”. It’s so important for us to live in the now and not always be waiting for the future or something to come in the future. Think about the happiness and joy of completing a goal. Close your eyes (when you’re done reading this of course…ha ha), feel how happy and satisfied you’ll be when you reach that goal. Actually feel it, feel the satisfaction and glow. Now absorb that deep into your soul. If you can feel that, then you can reproduce it any time you want. And you do NOT need to have actually achieved the goal or received the object to feel that way, do you? Once you’ve felt it, you can pull it back any time you want. Right NOW!

Don’t live for the future (the grass on the other side). Live in the NOW and enjoy your life NOW. Look around you and see how many people have had adversity fall upon them and as a result they have been derailed from pursuing all their goals and destinations. They are then forced to live in the NOW because as far as they know there may not be any tomorrow. When you go to bed, express your gratitude for all you’ve had and experienced during the day. When you wake up in the morning, the first thing you should do is to express gratitude for having awakened and been given another day.

Live each day for others and see what you can do to help others. There are so many people out there that are in pain and no one knows that. You don’t know who you are touching. Just a smile or a kind word can make a difference. Have you ever experienced that? When you’ve been down and things just not going right, you’ve received a smile or someone has said “thank you” or “how are you today” or just something that makes you think that there is at least one other person in the world that cares about you? I know I have. And the endorphins I experience either from being the recipient of that kindness (or even better being able to give the same to someone else) are not surpassed by anything. To be able to help others provides the greatest joy you can ever experience.

I can’t run right now and don’t know for how long I’ll be sidetracked. Someone on my Facebook page wrote that we always wish for rest when we can’t and when we have to rest, we wish we could be out doing the activity (my paraphrasing). And you know what? That’s so right. Instead of sitting here wishing I could run and feeling remorse for the events I’ll be missing, I must focus on the benefits of not being able to get out there. I am getting some better at this as my feet feel better and I can walk OK. It was more difficult when it hurt so much to just get up to walk to the bathroom or the kitchen. But, as walking becomes easier, I am taking the opportunity to alter my thinking every time I start feeling depressed and worried about not being able to run. I ask myself what am I supposed to be learning? There are so many things I can do now that I have the time I would be out training – get them done now and be happy. They are the tedious chores that I would normally put aside as I lace up my shoes. But now I have no reason to put them aside. So get them done and rejoice in that achievement.  I can work on my books. I have started to read again which I hadn’t done before. There are so many things I can do to feel fulfilled. I could also relive the events I’ve done in the past and take the feelings from them and be happy at that. The trick with that is to not then slip into remorse because I may not be able to  them again. I have to stop myself from thinking that way for two reasons. It ruins the moment but more importantly, I am likely to attract that situation. I just need to think about how well my feet are healing and how strong my mind and body are right now. I don’t want the Law of Attraction to bring me more inability to run. So, I’m working with it to bring me strength and capability. Slowing down, I think, has been the lesson for me in 2015. It’s time for me to relish that thought and think what it really means to me. I obviously haven’t learned well enough from it because it keeps being forced upon me. I need to delve deeper…..hmmmm

So, for at least a week, put the lawn mower away and don’t even look at the grass on the other side. Look at your own yard (life) and even if there are brown spots in the lawn, think about what you could do with that brown area. Think about the earth underneath it and what critters are living there.  Or even better, just look at what’s around the brown and be happy you have a yard no matter what it looks like. Many people in the world don’t even have a yard. Take a drink of clean water and be oh, so grateful that you have running clean water. So many people don’t. Think about how you can help others every single day. Make that your goal each day instead of thinking about what you “could” or “will” have ….eventually. Do it now and be in the now. It really makes a difference. In fact, try to define what the phrase “live each day to its fullest” means to you…and then go live that way – each and every day.

The grass really is NOT greener on the other side. It’s perfectly fine right where you’re standing so live it and love it. It’s yours and you should rejoice!

Join me on the journey to live in the NOW. We aren’t that good at that anymore but we can try to get back there. Are you game to try?

Momentum Monday

momentum-monday1“You are the owner of all that you perceive. But you can’t perceive apart from your vibration. Feel your way, little-by-little, into a greater sense of abundance by looking for the treasures that the Universe is offering you on a day-to-day basis.” ~Abraham [Excerpted from the workshop: Portland, OR on June 10, 1997]

Remember the phrase “Perception is reality”. That is why Abraham talks about all you perceive. To piggy back on a recent post – if you perceive that things are not going your way, guess what? They will not be going your way.

And your vibration will be in alignment with that perception. So what are you likely to get more of? More things “not going your way”.

What Abraham is trying to get you to do is go very slowly and find something about the current situation (perception) that you can feel good about and/or see some good in and that will begin to raise your vibration even if it’s by a slow margin. Each time you raise it just a bit more, the closer you come to seeing (and then getting) the abundance that is your right and is there in the Universe for you to take. Remember that all you have to do is ask for it, believe that it will be delivered and stop checking your mailbox which undermines your faith that it will be delivered. Let the doorbell ring when your “order” arrives. This is the law of Gestation at work too. I know how hard it is believe me. Between wanting my feet to get better so I can run again and my sweet potatoes that I planted about 3 months ago now, I’m itching to “check on things” but know that I have to wait and be patient. I feel my feet will heal – I just have to stop being impatient. But the sweet potatoes – well, that’s another story. I don’t know if they are growing or will grow. This is my first attempt at something like this and I had nursed the “slips” since last fall. So, of course I’m anxious to see what’s happened. But, I also know that if I dig them up now to find out, I will have destroyed all that’s gone before. That’s where the faith has to come in. If I did things right, I will have sweet potatoes. If I didn’t, then I won’t BUT I will have learned a great deal from the experience. That will be the joy for me. And rather than it all being “all over” when this year’s planting is done, it will just be the beginning since I will be able to start over and make changes in my practice. That’s what life is all about. Continuing to put into work what you’ve learned. And having the faith and patience to let things evolve.

Long winded, perhaps but important in order to give you the idea about raising your vibration bit by bit. Go slowly and you will get there. I proved that in Tennessee. I never thought I would get there with as slow as I was having to go. But with help from all around me, I kept going and eventually made it.

Keep on raising your vibrations this week!

What To Do When Things Don’t Seem To Be Working Out

things not going your way 2This is continuation (of sorts) on this week’s post on How You Handle Adversity. Hopefully, if you handle that adversity well, it won’t get to this stage. But remember that perception is reality and if you don’t think things are going well or working out for you, they won’t be.

However, many years later you may reflect back on that time and realize that everything worked out perfectly and as it was supposed to. You could say that that’s quite a fatalistic approach to things but I don’t think so. I do believe we can make everything better even “on the fly”.

I look back at many times in my life where I thought “the end is here” (in my youthful dramatization) and several years later I understood that everything worked out exactly as it should. I think that happened because I tried to just march right through those events and make the most of them and then forget them. I tried not to dwell on any bad event for very long. This was way before I knew anything about metaphysics.

There was an easier way though – had I known.

Remember in my Terrie’s Trek Across Tennessee report how I recognized how important it is to stay present and stay IN the present. By doing that you avoid the “what if” this or that happens? When you enter into the “what if” mode, you can come up with all sorts of bad things….you can also come up with all sorts of good things if you come at it from a different approach. This is one of Abraham’s techniques that is excellent and helps you get into the proper vibration.

I am currently dealing with that “Things Don’t Seem To Be Working Out” scenario regarding my feet. It’s been way too long since the end of the race and I should have healed faster. After all, almost everyone else who participated in the event has been out running races already. I can still barely walk even though all this time has passed since it ended. Initially I was very worried. Worried that I would never be able to run again. I was obsessed with this. You see, running is one of the most important things in my life. And there would be a great void if I weren’t able to do it any longer. And then, there’s the “what am I going to do for exercise and keep the weight off” issue that always permeates a girl’s spirit and soul.

When I wrote my report and when I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by two folks, I really began to realize that these injuries are a gift. Often times we don’t know the meaning or value of a gift when first given but it later becomes apparent. I started to see how this problem was doing more for me than rapid healing would have done.

I was seeing how so many disabled people have to live every moment of every day. The empathy (and sympathy) I was garnering for them was of great value even though I’m not yet certain of how I will apply the info. I just know that I was meant to experience this and become aware.

I was also forced to realize that my life is too shallow. That I need to find other outlets and valuable ways to fill my time. My coaching program will be an excellent example of that. And I could be getting ready for it now while I’m healing. In other words, I do not have any excuse right now for not working on it since I can’t be out running.

I have much more time for my writing too. There are the two books that I’m working on. I have no excuses really but my procrastination has continued despite having the time.  Still have to figure that one out.

I started reading again too. I haven’t done that in a very long time. I especially am getting into the two books Ben exposed me too during the run. I have started “Infinite Jest” and am enjoying working my way through it. And of course, James Patterson came out with a new book right at this great time.

I’ve also learned more about essential oils. I was very interested in them before but now am working on the right combination for pain and inflammation. This has been a terrific exposure since I am much better at the “see one, do one, teach one” mode. If I can see the results (on my feet) then I can remember the techniques and combinations better in order to impart my knowledge to others.

For, I have realized that my role in life is to learn things and pass them on to others.  Just as we talk about needing to keep money in circulation (buying and selling vice saving and stuffing your money away) is the way to absolute abundance, the same goes for all we learn. It does no good to just learn something and store it away. We are compelled and obligated to pass it on to others. The human race is a social race and it is our responsibility to keep it that way despite all the dependence and reliance on technology.  What have you learned that you can pass on to others?

The attitude with which you view your situation is the key point in how they will turn out. If you view each problem with the “what am I learning from this?” or “what can I learn from this?” and “how can I apply this in my life for the best?”, you will have raised your vibration and you will be searching for the solution.

Remember to focus on the Solution, not the problem! If you focus on the problem(s), you will receive more of the problem and more of that attitude. But if you focus on the solution, you’ll raise your vibration and you’ll be on a different plane than problematic thinking and you’ll be much more likely to attract the solution and all the benefits.

When things don’t seem to be working out, just tell yourself that they will work out the way you shape them no matter what. The Law of Attraction is always working. You just have to manage it and turn your attitude and beliefs about this current situation into whatever positive you can. It’s not a “pollyanna” approach. It’s just accepting that you created the situation and now it’s your responsibility to accept it or shape it into something useful and valuable. You do that via your attitude and belief.

What’s going on in your life now? How can you view it differently? Let us know in the comment section. Repeat this phrase endlessly – “Everything always works out for me!”
