you manifest what you believe not what you want

“You manifest what you believe, not what you want” ~ Sonia Ricotti

Read this simple quote several times and let the meaning sink in.

This is often why people say that ‘positive thinking’ doesn’t work.  And it’s also why affirmations by themselves may not be as effective as we’d like.  It’s another reason why much of the time even if you do everything you’re supposed to, it still doesn’t seem that you can manifest what you want – and then we get impatient and simply “quit”, saying “see I told you it doesn’t work”.

The hardest (but most rewarding) work you can do along these lines is to really examine your beliefs. Usually you can figure out the limiting beliefs by identifying the “buts”….for example if you say “I am becoming a millionaire” – listen quietly to your inner voice and hear the “but” that follows that statement. It goes something like this:

Your voice: “I am becoming a millionaire”

You mind: “but there is no way that can happen given my current income and my age. I’ll be dead before I could possibly make that kind of money. Besides I have a day job and don’t have time to work hard enough to make that much money and even what if I decided I wanted to try for it, I would have no more freedom and I’d have such increased responsibilities that I wouldn’t know how to juggle them with my family and my day job…..”

Do you see how many limiting beliefs are uncovered in the short time it took me to jot it down. And I didn’t even give it any thought. These are just things that I have heard come out of people’s mouths when I ask them about their beliefs and desires. You can also see that becoming a millionaire, in addition to being a trigger, is probably not something that person really wants deep inside. This person doesn’t want to work any extra or have anything add responsibilities to their already full day, or that might interfere with their relationships (family, job, etc).  They aren’t even willing to entertain that there are many ways to become a millionaire and that this process does NOT necessarily require extra work or taking you away from your family. But these are good reasons (aka excuses) as to why they won’t even make the effort. This person will say the affirmation but without looking at the “but”, they won’t understand why it won’t come true.

Examine your ‘buts’ and write them down. Keep going too. I could have just stopped with the “given my income and age” but there was more in this person’s belief as to why they couldn’t become a millionaire so we had to let it just flow. Do that with yourself. You will discover many of your beliefs. Once they have been uncovered, you can work on changing the ones you want to and then your desires can be in concert with your new beliefs.

Remember, though, that beliefs may have multiple layers.  So, don’t just stop with one “but” session. Do this repeatedly especially after you’ve identified one or more limiting beliefs in response to a sentence. Then go back and do it again and you’ll most likely realize there are more. It’s that wonderful “onion peeling process” at work. Use it to its full advantage. This part isn’t hard. It may be a bit painful when you see what’s been holding you back (maybe you still think the earth is flat – not really but sometimes your old beliefs are old and new facts have refuted them by now but that message has not made it deep within your subconscious mind). But it definitely will be worth it!

quote-119 How has this been a factor in your life? When have you been knocked down but gotten back up and continued to move on, to fight for what you believed in, for what you wanted in life?

When have you been knocked down and stayed down for the count? Have there been instances when you’ve just given up and just not bothered to get back up again? Perhaps you re-evaluated why you were fighting for that thing in the first place. Perhaps you realized that you really wanted to head in a different direction. Perhaps you just gave up. All of these are OK as long as you learned from the experience.

This is similar to the expression about never giving up – that the end might actually be just over the bend or the crest in the hill. We seem to want to give up when the going is toughest. After all, I wanted to quit the 314 mile Tennessee race with only 14 miles to go. That would qualify for quitting when the end is just around the corner so to speak. The difference there, though, was that I knew it was around the corner. Sometimes we just feel as if our tank is completely empty and we cannot go on no matter what. I was at that point for sure. Anyone who knows me knows that it is not like me to cry for 2 miles (or any miles for that matter) but that’s the point where I was. My tank didn’t even have any fumes left in it. This is one time where I would have been knocked down and NOT gotten up again. However, I had people around me that made me get back up (they just didn’t give me any other option). Because of these other people I was able to finish. They pulled me up by my bootstraps. But the point is, it doesn’t matter how you get back up, just that you do.

Surround yourself with people who will help you reach your success point – or even go higher than what you thought you could do. You may need to stop and take a rest but you should not allow yourself to stop forever. Some people may be down for years but they eventually get back on their horse and reach their goal. That is fine too. It has continued to spark a fire inside of them and eventually it got big enough to propel them back in that direction. Just don’t tell yourself that you’re down and out. Tell yourself that you’re just taking a rest perhaps.

Do NOT stay down. Humans were made to be in an upright position. Get up and keep moving! You can do it. You don’t really know what lies ahead of you and what greatness will be there for you to receive.

momentum-monday1“Don’t do anything that you don’t really want to do. Keep yourself in a place of feeling good. Reach for the thought that feels better — and watch what happens.” —Abraham [Excerpted from the workshop: Boston, MA on October 10, 1999]

Sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do but is it that we don’t want to do them or we’d rather be doing something else? Either way, we really shouldn’t be doing something that we really despise. That will bring us down and our vibration down.

If you find yourself in a position where things aren’t feeling the best, try to reach deep to find something about the situation that you can hold onto that would make you feel better. That’s “reaching for a better feeling thought.” It might even be something simple like “I’m so glad I have a home and a great family” or even “I love my dog. I’m so lucky.” Let me give you an example. Right now is the first time in 5 years that I haven’t been able to do any form of exercise for several weeks. At times, it starts to get to me and I start to imagine and worry about how “out of shape” I’m getting and how lucky everyone else is that I see running along my street. But then I slap myself and say “stop it. You are healthy and you can use this time to exercise your mind and allow your body to regenerate, Terrie.” I then stop and realize that there are always life lessons in everything that happens to me (and to everyone for that matter) and it’s my responsibility to identify what those lessons are and do something productive with them. When I move to that type of thinking, I actually get excited thinking about it. My vibration moves from really down (with the potential for spiraling further and further down that rabbit hole) to an upward momentum of excitement and curiosity.

You can do this with any situation you’re in. Stop and assess where you are and maybe where you could be if you allow yourself to continue that line of thinking. Do you want to continue to go in that direction? If not, then find something, anything that can help you feel different. It may not be a massive upward swing in your attitude but as long as it’s an improvement and a “better feeling thought”, you’re on your way to changing your life for the better!

Momentum Monday

momentum-monday1“You are the owner of all that you perceive. But you can’t perceive apart from your vibration. Feel your way, little-by-little, into a greater sense of abundance by looking for the treasures that the Universe is offering you on a day-to-day basis.” ~Abraham [Excerpted from the workshop: Portland, OR on June 10, 1997]

Remember the phrase “Perception is reality”. That is why Abraham talks about all you perceive. To piggy back on a recent post – if you perceive that things are not going your way, guess what? They will not be going your way.

And your vibration will be in alignment with that perception. So what are you likely to get more of? More things “not going your way”.

What Abraham is trying to get you to do is go very slowly and find something about the current situation (perception) that you can feel good about and/or see some good in and that will begin to raise your vibration even if it’s by a slow margin. Each time you raise it just a bit more, the closer you come to seeing (and then getting) the abundance that is your right and is there in the Universe for you to take. Remember that all you have to do is ask for it, believe that it will be delivered and stop checking your mailbox which undermines your faith that it will be delivered. Let the doorbell ring when your “order” arrives. This is the law of Gestation at work too. I know how hard it is believe me. Between wanting my feet to get better so I can run again and my sweet potatoes that I planted about 3 months ago now, I’m itching to “check on things” but know that I have to wait and be patient. I feel my feet will heal – I just have to stop being impatient. But the sweet potatoes – well, that’s another story. I don’t know if they are growing or will grow. This is my first attempt at something like this and I had nursed the “slips” since last fall. So, of course I’m anxious to see what’s happened. But, I also know that if I dig them up now to find out, I will have destroyed all that’s gone before. That’s where the faith has to come in. If I did things right, I will have sweet potatoes. If I didn’t, then I won’t BUT I will have learned a great deal from the experience. That will be the joy for me. And rather than it all being “all over” when this year’s planting is done, it will just be the beginning since I will be able to start over and make changes in my practice. That’s what life is all about. Continuing to put into work what you’ve learned. And having the faith and patience to let things evolve.

Long winded, perhaps but important in order to give you the idea about raising your vibration bit by bit. Go slowly and you will get there. I proved that in Tennessee. I never thought I would get there with as slow as I was having to go. But with help from all around me, I kept going and eventually made it.

Keep on raising your vibrations this week!

momentum-monday1people will never forget how you made them feel

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.”

~ Maya Angelou

I cannot tell you how true this is AND how important it is.

What you do for other people whether it’s through actions or words is so very important. It can even change and protect some people’s lives. Sometimes a smile or a kind word will be the only thing a person has to hang on to to keep themselves from taking their own lives. You might laugh but it’s so very true.

If you read my race report about my Trek across Tennessee, you’ll see the importance of how everyone around me made me feel when I was suffering so much. From the sleep deprived and extremely fatigued race director to my good friend in California, just their thoughts and words made such a big difference in my being able to continue onward. This friend in California was phenomenal. Even though I didn’t have time to respond to her texts or Facebook messages, she continually sent them. She didn’t have to. She could have just said “Well, to heck with it. Terrie hasn’t responded so she’s on her own”. But she didn’t. She continued to cheer me on, not knowing what an amazing difference that made in my mental attitude. Thank you Ginger!

Take some time each day to make a concerted effort to do something nice for someone even if it’s just to smile and ask how they are or if there is anything you can do for them. This will make a difference – I guarantee you. You may not know that at the time but you’ll know in your heart that you have made someone feel good or feel important.

As one of our guests recently said “humans are social beings” – we rely on others for so much. This age of technology has made many folks forget that. Don’t you be one to simply cram yourself into your phone and computer. Take time to connect with others.
