Momentum Monday

momentum-monday1“As you set a financial goal, it is not only about the expansion for yourself; it’s about the expansion of all of those who are involved in that which you are about. In other words, it creates this nucleus, this machine, that allows so many to begin to thrive along with you. It’s much bigger than finances.”
—Abraham – Excerpted from the workshop: San Antonio, TX on November 13, 2004

This concept applies to every aspect of your life, not just financial. It also lets you know that you need to pay attention to your environment. Look at the people around you. Do they have a prosperity consciousness or do they have a lack consciousness. Lack in one area of your life (or anyone else’s life) such as health, wealth, peace of mind, happiness, relationships, etc oozes over into the other areas of your life.

If you hold on to old friends who are mostly negative in their outlook or have given their power to external circumstances, then it’s bound to influence you – no matter how much you think you want to expand your view and experience in life. There is one person in my life who was absent for several years and then when we were reunited, I realized how negative that person was and had we continued to be in contact during all those years, I would NOT have grown spiritually and achieved so much. I would have been mired in the negativity.

Do you feel mired? Dragged down? Do you feel like you’re on the Titanic as it’s sinking? If so, and if you’ve been working to change your momentum and attraction, then look at the people you hang out with. What is their consciousness? If it’s not in sync with yours, then it’s going to interfere with your momentum and you want to get away from them. Not always easy but definitely worth exploring how you can change that relationship – maybe you don’t have to hang around where they do or maybe you can change the conversations when they go down Negativity Road.

Same thing applies when you look at your home or office surroundings. What do they say about you? Are you holding on to old things because you feel you’ll need them and are afraid to let go? What period of time in your life do the things around you represent? Richness or lack? Change things up – surround yourself with things you want!

Small changes are important in changing your momentum and getting the Law of Attraction to work for you the way you want it to.

Try it this week. Journal about your family, friends, office, home, car (clean it up) and anything else you see every day.

You Won’t Find The Solution By Continuing To Focus On The Problem

focus-on-solution-not-problemWe’ve talked about this before but it’s so important that I want to discuss it again – perhaps in a different way.

It’s a basic application of the Law of Attraction.  You get more of what you’re focusing on. You are sending out the “problem” energy wavelengths. Therefore, of course you’re going to get more of the problem.

If you put your energy out there in the “solution” wavelength, you will get the solution.

How do you switch from focusing on the problem to concentrating on the solution? You have to WANT the solution first. “Obviously” I can hear you muttering. But it’s not so obvious. Many people want to continue to focus on the problem because that’s what will get them the attention they crave. They aren’t doing it consciously. It’s a learned behavior, a habit that’s been engrained in their souls for a very long time. They probably weren’t taught how to focus on anything else. I think another word for all this is “worry”.  These people often also don’t like change. If they continue to pay attention to the problem, then they don’t have to change. Things will stay the same with even more of the same (the problem). It gives them something to talk about too. How often do you find a news program or newspaper that is filled completely with good news? Rarely. It’s blood, guts, murder, crime and all the other bad stuff that makes the news. This is because our culture is excited by drama and misfortune. I don’t know why but I’m sure the psychologists do. It just aggravates me so I don’t participate – that means I don’t watch the news. Your first step, then, is to stop participating in the conversations that are problem centered. This may take some creativity but I have confidence that you can do it. Most people are pretty skilled in changing the subject or even just walking away to find something else to do. If you continue to hang out with them, your motivation to change your habits and behavior will be minimal. And even if you are motivated to change, you are more likely to be overwhelmed by the behavior and talk of others.

Next, repeat my favorite affirmations many, many times during the day. The easiest one is “Everything always works out for me!” You can also tailor and then use the other one “Nothing and no one can interfere with my prosperity (or health, or finding the solution or whatever is appropriate for you), not even myself”. People think affirmations don’t work. But they do. And one thing they do is to redirect your momentum and wavelengths from the negative. You may not yet be focusing on the positive but you’re more neutral and less focused on the negative.  This is a crucial step. You want to stop those problem-focused thoughts in their tracks.

Then follow the affirmations with “Show me the way” – this will open your mind to the Universe and you’ll be more likely to receive an answer!

Repeatedly tell yourself that there is a solution for every problem and it is yours for the asking.

Try to look at what the solution would be like when it comes to you.

There are many other things you can do once you decide you no longer want to be involved in the problem mindset. Make a list of them and keep it on an index card with you all the time.

Be creative and just remember the ultimate goal – the solution.

Embrace The Journey – Take Responsibility

take responsibilityI think taking responsibility for whatever happens or however you feel is one of the most important (and most mature) things we can do.

It’s so easy in today’s culture to try to place blame on someone or something else. Take for example my inability to complete the run across Tennessee last year. I only made it 104 miles. Let’s see, there were many things I could have blamed for my inability to finish (called a DNF – did not finish). There was very high heat, there were long stretches of open road where the sun just beat down on you, there was supposedly high humidity, there were hills, I did things I wouldn’t have done on my own, etc.

But you know what? I knew it was in July in Tennessee so of course I knew it was hot, humid and hilly. Plus, there is an email group that talks about the event so I had all the information I needed about the environment. And I live in Texas so I was acclimated. Therefore it’s not the “fault” of the environment. I also chose to do the things that I now say I wouldn’t have done on my own. The pros of doing them then definitely outweighed any cons I might have thought of. And I probably would have made other bad decisions.

Bottom line, here’s why I didn’t finish. Yes I was injured so that’s another good “excuse” why I didn’t complete the journey. But you know what? The reason I had the injury was that I trained wrong and did everything wrong – and that I knew was wrong in my subconscious mind. But I let the anxiety of possibly “not finishing” get to me – and guess what? I didn’t finish. Imagine that – the Law of Attraction actually works. Ha ha!

Once I took responsibility for not completing this event and examined the choices I made, then I was able to take the good from it and realize the lessons I learned – and there were many. Taking responsibility actually gives me the power to change things. Why would I  (or why would you) want to give your power to something else that you can’t control (such as the environment)? I don’t want to give my power away to anyone or anything. Do you?

Embracing the journey includes taking responsibility for whatever happens no matter how tempting it is to try to find an excuse or something to blame. Do you try to find something or someone to “blame” for the good things that happen in your life? Of course not. You will frequently thank others for their help in the process but you don’t completely put the responsibility for the accomplishment on them do you?

Think about your life and the things that haven’t gone as planned and see if you can revisit them. Where did you put the power? Let us know what you come up with.

Momentum Monday

momentum-monday1“When you are in vibrational harmony, your body produces whatever it needs to remain in perfect balance.” ~Abraham [Excerpted from the workshop: Boston, MA on October 20, 1996]

Have you ever noticed how when you’re really psyched up and working feverishly on a project you love that you don’t feel the sleep deprivation you would at other times? That you can go hours and sometimes even days without eating? Your body continues to function perfectly without you having to spend a great deal of time attending to it. That is the beauty of the human body – it’s automatic functioning. How can anyone doubt the existence of a Divine Presence if you just look at the human body? But I digress.

When your vibrations are high and you’re feeling great, your body will use whatever resources it needs to keep it functioning the way you need it to. Everything is in balance – your emotions (feelings), your vibrations AND your body. This is true harmony.

It benefits you to do everything you can to be in the highest possible vibrational state. Call on those Kodak moments you’ve been storing whenever you want to get higher – not on drugs but on the elixir of life.  Remember that you can “feel” as much joy and happiness as you want just by visualizing whatever it is you want. Try it. I know for a fact that whenever I am visualizing and thinking about my multiday races, I can get into such a state of happiness and joy that it’s almost better to be there than to go through the actual event 🙂

Think back to a time in your life when your body seemed to behave perfectly. I’ll give you a recent example. Normally I have digestive problems with certain types of foods. A few weeks ago I went to the San Antonio Rodeo to see Reba McIntyre.  I had “won” this as a result of my participation in the KJ97 St Jude Children’s Research Hospital Radiothon. I was excited and I knew that this was a gift of love.

When I entered the arena I turned to the first place where you could get a choice of food (not the fast food at the usual vendors). If I had taken more time I would have eventually seen that there were fajitas on the menu but they were buried. I chose a Taco Salad with chicken and although I was worried about my reaction to the food (at times I don’t do well with this), I vowed to just eat my meal with love and joy. I noted that the women who created the food were doing so with love, not the usual “hurry up and get through the line” attitude. They were friendly, engaged in conversation and obviously cared about the food they were preparing.

I took my time eating it and savoring the salad. I watched the wonderful people walking around and just had a blast. Amazingly I had absolutely NO problems with the food – either that night or even the next day. That was because my body and soul were in vibrational harmony! My body did everything it needed to do to make sure I continued to enjoy the food and therefore the evening. The higher vibration allowed me to enjoy every single part of the night without having to worry about anything!

Do everything you can to get yourself into the highest possible vibrational state and see how your body reacts!

Embrace The Journey – Are You In This Trap?

trapWhat “will” make you happy? That’s a trick question, of course. The trap I’m referring to in the title of this post is the one where you are thinking/feeling anything similar to:

  • I’ll be happy when I have a good job
  • I’ll be happy when I lose 50 pounds
  • I’ll be happy when I’m rich
  • I’ll be happy when I meet the right guy
  • I’ll be happy when I finally do a 100 mile run or when I do a PR (personal record)
  • I’ll be happy when I complete this run across Tennessee
  • I’ll be happy when I graduate from college
  • I’ll be happy when I’m done with my internship and residency

Instead of “happy” you can substitute any number of other terms

  • I’ll be important when………………….
  • I’ll be special when………………….
  • My life will be great when………………….
  • People will notice me when………………….
  • I’ll be popular when………………….
  • I’ll be rich when………………….
  • I’ll be famous when………………….
  • I’ll be comfortable when………………….
  • I’ll be attractive when………………….

Why is this a trap? Because you’re wasting so much of your life and energy thinking/hoping that your life will change when something else happens. What about living in the now? If you are holding back your happiness and joy until something happens, you are missing out on so much. I experienced this all my younger life when I just “knew” everything was going to be fine in my life WHEN I finally became a doctor. That’s what every minute of my life was aiming for. That was the purpose behind everything I did. I never took time to enjoy or experience the journey or have any fun along the way. What if I had not graduated? What If something had happened to me along the way before I graduated? I would have missed life.

Do you want to miss life? I can personally tell you that things can change in an instant so it’s important that you have fun and get meaning out of your life each and every moment. It doesn’t store up – you can’t bank enjoyment for later. Later may never come.

What’s worse is when I graduated from medical school, my response was simply “Now what?” – I was almost despondent and certainly depressed because I had wanted that for so many years and now that it was finally here I hadn’t thought beyond it. So, I had nothing else to live for. It’s what you hear about when you talk to runners who train and train for races such as a marathon and then after it’s over they have severe depression unless they have set their sites on another goal – OR know how to enjoy each moment and realize that the race was just that – one time period in their life that was fun and challenging but not your entire life.

If you think you won’t be happy until something else happens, I encourage you to start feeling the way you think you’re going to feel later but do it NOW. If you think you’ll go out on dates when you lose 50 pounds, go out now. If you think you’ll get new, pretty clothes when you lose 50 pounds, buy them now. Act as if! Acting as if will make whatever you are wishing for come true faster than anything other. If you think you’re not rich now, not attractive now, not slender now, you’ll be pushing any of that away. That’s the Law of Attraction in action. Look around you. Are there people in your life who are living in the future like this? Are you doing this?

Take some time to examine if any of this applies to you and then think about how you would feel if something happened to derail you in the next hour or so. What can you change about your life right now to make it meaningful and enjoyable?

What are you waiting for?
