Derek Jeter Demonstrated The Power of Emotions

New York Yankees Wallpaper 50Those of you who know me even the slightest little bit know that I am an avid New York Yankees fan (maybe that should say “rabid” instead of “avid”). By the way, there is a big difference between being a baseball fan (which I am not – I actually think the game is rather boring to watch even though I love to play softball) and being a Yankees fan. But I digress.

This year, the Yankees have been terrible because everyone (and I mean almost every single big name star) has been on the Disabled List (DL). They had been keeping their head above water but just barely.  But they couldn’t score any runs or hit home runs (they are, after all, called the Bronx Bombers).

Yesterday, Derek Jeter – the Captain – returned from a very long stint on the Disabled List from a fractured ankle last fall.  This has been a long awaited return and emotions were very high at the ballpark (and in my living room).

His first at bat was in the first inning. And yep, the movie script couldn’t have been any better. He hit the first pitch out of the park – and Derek Jeter is NOT a home run hitter. However, he’s hit two very big ones in the last couple of years. One was for his 3000th hit, a very big accomplishment in baseball. The other was yesterday when the Yankees desperately needed to stop  the skidding they were doing.

Not only did that hit put them ahead in the game but it ignited a fervor they had not experienced in a long time. The rest of the game was back and forth, lead wise, but the Yankees always maintained the higher vibrations.

The confidence and excitement instilled in them by Derek Jeter’s return raised their vibrations and enhanced their beliefs that they could win. And win they did – in dramatic fashion as well – something they have NOT done all year.

When you are excited, enthused, encouraged by something, your emotions and subsequently your vibrations will rise and then you will be unstoppable. Find that thing that takes you up, up and away emotionally and you will soar on top of the world!

Law of Attraction – Rule #5 – It’s All In Your Head

custom_text_badge_11930When you hear people say “it’s all in your head” your natural reaction most likely is one of anger and disbelief and astonishment – “how can you possibly think that – this is real?”

Reality is in our heads. Take this action. Write out what the actual facts are. Then everything else is your (or someone else’s) interpretation. And much of that interpretation is based on what we think and believe. If we have limiting beliefs still embedded in the cobwebs of our mind, then the interpretation of those facts will be very negative. If we’ve done a good job of eliminating our limiting beliefs and replacing them with UNlimiting beliefs, the interpretation will be extremely positive.

I’ve talked for many years about limiting beliefs and I feel that it should be a more prevalent topic of discussion than the Law of Attraction. Those who saw “The Secret” and later said it was baloney and didn’t work were not aware of the power of limiting beliefs and how they control all our thoughts, feelings, actions AND results! Your beliefs are what governs your feelings and subsequently your thoughts.

We accumulate our beliefs very early in life – from birth, if not before. They come from our parents, our family, peers, friends, colleagues, teachers, religious leaders, media, bosses, national leaders and anyone around us. Some of the beliefs are stronger than others. The more we are exposed to ideas and the more we respect or love a person, the more likely it is that we will adopt their ideas as our own beliefs.

As Abraham-Hicks says “A belief is just a thought we keep thinking over and over again”. When we think it over and over and over, it seems as if it must be real to us and so we start to believe it. But it is NOT necessarily reality. Remember that everyone felt the earth was flat. But it isn’t. They also thought that no one would ever be able to run a mile in less than 4 minutes – but it’s been done many times now. Think of all the things we have at our fingertips now – all the inventions. Were they ever thought to be possible? No – not until someone received the divine idea and chose to believe that it was possible. Once things are “visible” to others, they can become the subject of a new belief – such as the earth is round. Anyone now a days who believes that the earth is flat would be laughed at.

This should be (and probably will be) a multi-part “rule” because there are many different parts that need to be addressed (and are better addressed in some of our courses).

You have to understand that we are our own worst enemies. What if a baby was self-deprecating and each time it fell down while trying to learn to walk it said “gees, you’re really stupid – you fell down again. How dumb can you be?” or “Why can’t I get that right – I just started doing it yesterday, you’d think I’d be able to walk by now – there must be something wrong with me.” Or “I’ll never get it. Why bother?”.

Thank goodness children have not yet been overwhelmed with these horrible limiting beliefs and thoughts that if they don’t succeed and do everything perfectly on day 1 that they are “bad” people. If so, they would never do or try anything.

Why do we do that to ourselves as older children and then repeatedly as adults? Because somewhere along the way someone (or frustrationmany someones) have made a statement that we interpreted as a criticism or statement that we were bad people. It may not have really been intended that way but that is the way we perceived it. You’ve heard the phrase “perception is reality”. Well, that is so very true, especially in our own worlds and involving our own ego. If someone is having a bad day and comments on something we say or do but it doesn’t sound all cheery and enthusiastic, we are likely to interpret it as them not approving or worse yet, them criticizing us. When, in reality (their reality), they are NOT enthusiastic about ANYTHING at that moment except, perhaps, making their bad day go away. That has absolutely nothing to do with us and our performance. But since children believe that the world revolves around them, the pattern of interpreting others actions in terms of their own world is established. So, unless this other person says something like “hey, I’m just having a bad day so don’t take anything I do or don’t do personally” then we are liable to interpret their actions or looks or words the wrong way. Do you do that? I know I do and then I kick myself when I realize what I’ve done. But it’s taken me years to realize what it is that’s happened – it was ingrained in me as a child to just interpret and not ask – actually when I asked, I never believed the response so I just stopped asking and felt that I “knew” what the real truth was. That’s a worse scenario, believe me.

You don’t even know all the things you believe in. You may be able to spout off the basics “I believe in God”, “I believe in justice”, “I believe in the 10 commandments”, “I believe you’re innocent until proven guilty” (”well, maybe not all the time but I have to say I believe that”), etc.

But what do you believe about your self-worth, about your ability to succeed, about your ability to love and be loved, about your ability to perform in something you love doing? Look at your life and your dreams and desires and see what it is you believe. Because your thoughts and words reflect your beliefs and your actions reflect all of that most of all. Why not take a moment and write down what’s happened in your life – are you successful in business, relationships, happiness? What have you accomplished? Have you reached your goals? Did you ever have goals? Or did you just “settle” for what came your way? Did you have a reason (excuse) why you didn’t become that person you wanted to be when you were a child. For example, I wanted to be a neurosurgeon from the time I first saw the TV show “Ben Casey” (showing my age I know). But when I was 21 I developed epilepsy. That shot down any hopes of being a neurosurgeon. So that’s my “reason”. I could look alot more deeply into it and figure out how I created that reality but I don’t really care anymore since I found another direction and goal and was very happy with that. If, however, I had not been able to find something else, then I would have benefited from further exploration into my reason/excuse and see what was really going on.

check_off_with_pencil_800_7226This will be your starting point. Once you’ve written down all you’ve accomplished and all you wanted to accomplish, go back and figure out what it is you are lacking and see on that list of “wish I hads” that may still be sparking a desire within you. Then write down why you don’t have that particular thing. Be honest with yourself. No on else needs to see it. I think it might be revealing to you.

We’ll go a little deeper next time! But this will be a great start for you.

Law of Attraction – Rule #4 – Stop Checking The Mailbox

man with head in mailboxNow that you’ve realized the power of the Law of Attraction, figured out what you wanted and became specific about it and then told the Universe “This is what I want – bring it to me”, you must believe that it will be yours.

It won’t do you any good to be checking the mailbox two or three times a day – that won’t bring your order to your house any quicker, will it? Of course not.

Have faith and believe. This is a big part of “The Law of Allowing” – you have to realize that it is yours and that it will be given to you since you’ve asked. But you have to allow it into your life. The more you “check your mailbox” the less belief you express. You begin to wonder “did they get the order?” “Maybe they were out of of what I wanted”, “What if I didn’t put the right address?”, “What if….”, “What if….” etc. The doubts start to creep in. Every time you check the mailbox to see if the Universe has delivered your order, you wonder more and more if you made the right decision, if you deserve this gift (because if you did deserve it, it would be here already, right?), if it’s ever going to come, is this Law of Attraction really exists and works and if so, why won’t it work for you and on and on and on. The questions come faster and more furiously each time you check and there’s nothing there.

It will come if you continue to believe, to have faith. There is the Law of Gestation that comes into play here. It takes time for things to Taking care of new developmentgrow and manifest themselves. Different animals have different gestation periods; different seeds take different times to grow and sprout. If you plant a seed and then dig it up every day to see if it’s grown, it will never sprout above the soil. But if you plant it, water it and even talk to it and love it, in the proper amount of time (for that seed) it will bloom or sprout. The words to the song “The Rose” come to mind when explaining this concept.

“Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love
In the spring becomes the rose.”

So when you’re enduring the “winter’s bitter snows” know that your order will be delivered to you and you will receive The Rose!

It will arrive just as you asked.

Time To Practice What I Preach

dangerous_words_400_clr_9450 It’s times like this when all teachers go “uh oh” – when they have to walk their talk and live their lives as they recommend to others. Such a time has come for me.

Yesterday, on the way home from the gym I just had all sorts of dread thoughts about how bad Jackie might be because she looked so miserable in the morning before I left. I didn’t know if I had over-exercised her the few days before or if it was just a bad day or what had happened. I just knew that when I left for work in the morning she did not look very happy to be here.  So my thoughts were very melancholy and dark as I drove home – I even found myself going slower and slower the closer I got to home. That is something very UNLIKE the New Yorker in me – we don’t know the meaning of slow.

I was near tears and acknowledged that I had been all day long.

But as I drove the mile down the primary street in my neighborhood I realized that there was something I really COULD do about it. I had a choice even when things weren’t going great. I could sit and mope and who would blame me because my best friend, companion, child, whatever you want to call her is on her way to be with her sister. Of course people wouldn’t condemn. They would console.

But, I could also choose to raise my vibration and feel as good as I possibly could despite the situation. We have to understand that we really do have control over our feelings and emotions and these are the things that regulate our vibrations and our vibrations are what brings more into our lives. We can actively decide which things we want in our lives – more good or less good.

As a result of hitting myself over the side of my head, I made the conscious decision to make whatever time Jackie had left the best possible for her and for me. Just how am I going to do that? By applying the techniques I’ve learned.

I started with praise and appreciation, all the while reminding myself that I could use  “Which thought feels better” to really make me which thought feels betterfeel good finally. If I sat and thought about how lonely I was going to be and how I didn’t know when it would be the right time etc I would feel miserable. But, I also had the choice to sit and think about how much joy Jackie has given me and how much I love her and all the fun things she’s done and how much we’ve done together. Instead of regretting certain things that were out of my control at the time, I could celebrate the wonderful things – she proved much tougher than I ever thought she’d be and not only lived much longer after her sister died but survived an illness that threatened to take her from me. I reveled in her strength and thanked her for being so stubborn that she wanted to remain with me. I chuckled and smiled and told her what a great being she is.

Every time I started to experience a lower level emotion (remember there really are no negative emotions) I would find something like this to make me grin and look at her and her courage and determination. It truly is amazing how when your vibration raises, you can feel it immediately and it doesn’t take much effort at all. You can allow your mind to rule you or you can take control and regulate the thoughts you want to think and the emotions you want to feel.

Try it, you’ll really like it. It made our night together alot more fun and enjoyable even though we didn’t “do” anything different – Jackie ate just like a puppy and then went back to bed just like an old lady. But she was happy. And so was I.

Which thought feels better? Try it. More later – now I’m going out for a run!
