you manifest what you believe not what you want

“You manifest what you believe, not what you want” ~ Sonia Ricotti

Read this simple quote several times and let the meaning sink in.

This is often why people say that ‘positive thinking’ doesn’t work.  And it’s also why affirmations by themselves may not be as effective as we’d like.  It’s another reason why much of the time even if you do everything you’re supposed to, it still doesn’t seem that you can manifest what you want – and then we get impatient and simply “quit”, saying “see I told you it doesn’t work”.

The hardest (but most rewarding) work you can do along these lines is to really examine your beliefs. Usually you can figure out the limiting beliefs by identifying the “buts”….for example if you say “I am becoming a millionaire” – listen quietly to your inner voice and hear the “but” that follows that statement. It goes something like this:

Your voice: “I am becoming a millionaire”

You mind: “but there is no way that can happen given my current income and my age. I’ll be dead before I could possibly make that kind of money. Besides I have a day job and don’t have time to work hard enough to make that much money and even what if I decided I wanted to try for it, I would have no more freedom and I’d have such increased responsibilities that I wouldn’t know how to juggle them with my family and my day job…..”

Do you see how many limiting beliefs are uncovered in the short time it took me to jot it down. And I didn’t even give it any thought. These are just things that I have heard come out of people’s mouths when I ask them about their beliefs and desires. You can also see that becoming a millionaire, in addition to being a trigger, is probably not something that person really wants deep inside. This person doesn’t want to work any extra or have anything add responsibilities to their already full day, or that might interfere with their relationships (family, job, etc).  They aren’t even willing to entertain that there are many ways to become a millionaire and that this process does NOT necessarily require extra work or taking you away from your family. But these are good reasons (aka excuses) as to why they won’t even make the effort. This person will say the affirmation but without looking at the “but”, they won’t understand why it won’t come true.

Examine your ‘buts’ and write them down. Keep going too. I could have just stopped with the “given my income and age” but there was more in this person’s belief as to why they couldn’t become a millionaire so we had to let it just flow. Do that with yourself. You will discover many of your beliefs. Once they have been uncovered, you can work on changing the ones you want to and then your desires can be in concert with your new beliefs.

Remember, though, that beliefs may have multiple layers.  So, don’t just stop with one “but” session. Do this repeatedly especially after you’ve identified one or more limiting beliefs in response to a sentence. Then go back and do it again and you’ll most likely realize there are more. It’s that wonderful “onion peeling process” at work. Use it to its full advantage. This part isn’t hard. It may be a bit painful when you see what’s been holding you back (maybe you still think the earth is flat – not really but sometimes your old beliefs are old and new facts have refuted them by now but that message has not made it deep within your subconscious mind). But it definitely will be worth it!

One Day At A Time

custom_dart_calendar_16634 “Always remember that the future comes one day at a time” ~Dean Acheson

It’s always interesting to me that something so simple and so true can be so elusive and difficult to embrace.

Why is it so hard for us to realize this? You hear all sorts of stories about unexpected events happening to people that totally change their lives forever and derail them from the direction they have been focusing on.

If we continue to live in the future without being happy and satisfied on a day to day basis, we may miss out on life as it goes flying by. Waiting for the future is a big mistake. This is not to say that you shouldn’t have goals or want to do something with your life that involves planning and working toward it. But, don’t wait until you’ve achieved it to start enjoying your life.

Don’t be thinking “when I lose weight, I’ll be happy”, or “when I get this other job, I’ll have enough money to do the things I want to do and like”. This type of thinking keeps you from living in the Now and actually enjoying your life, living it to the fullest. If you wake up every morning and tell yourself “I’m going to live life to the fullest today no matter what”, then you’ve set your intention and “paved your way” for the day.

So what does “living your life to the fullest” mean? Maybe you’re not at the weight you want or have the amount of money you want, or have the love of your life yet. But, you have your personality and the beauty of the outdoors and the moon and the sky and everything about nature. In addition, you have people around you that you can influence. You can smile at them, say ‘hi’, tell them they did a good job, be there for them. It doesn’t take money to do all that, you don’t have to be at a certain weight or in love to make the lives of others happy. It takes a moment, it takes desire and awareness and a few words and a smile. Can you do that? I venture to say that making a difference in the life of someone else would actually make you feel more fulfilled than the other things I mentioned (weight, money, love life, etc). Try it, I think you’ll like it.

When things aren’t going the way you want them to, you really should slow down and find out what it is you CAN do given your new circumstances. You’ve been derailed from the road you were comfortably marching down and all of a sudden you have to change gears. You all know how incapacitated I am right now. I can just now walk some (with my boot) but still with a lot of pain. So, I cannot do any of the activities I like or need to do (including cleaning up the place – I haven’t even finished putting things away from the run in July). What are my options? Well, I could sit around and mope and I’m actually pretty good at that. But, I also know that it simply wastes my time. I allow myself to mope for a maximum of 45 minutes, then I have to do something. I’ve been forced to come up with other alternatives for what to do. And I have.

I could sit and say “I can’t wait until I can run again” and then waste all the days in between. And, what if these injuries keep me from running again? Then what? I could say “why aren’t my feet getting any better? They are the same as yesterday – what’s going on? Why me? Why isn’t it better?” etc. But what good would that do? NONE at all. What is better is to find something productive to do and something that will make me happy. So I spend the weekend OFF of Facebook (where all the race comments will be for the races I couldn’t go to but had signed up for). That way I’m not constantly thinking about what I “wish” I were doing. I have already made a list of all the things I can do and will do the ones I have to and then the ones I want to. I’ve been “knocked off my feet” for some universal lesson and I might as well spend this long weekend “going to school” to see if I can determine what the lessons are.

Try to reform the pathways in your brain. Find out what your purpose is in life and proceed to create a new path. It might lead to the same destination but you might have to take a different road to get there. Create your own AAA and make your new “trip tickets” – you can map your way, load up your GPS  and head on down a new highway to get to that destination (your purpose in life).  It’s all how you look at where you are right now compared to where you want to go!

What can you do to live life to the fullest today? I know I am going to laugh and joke and let others around me know how much I appreciate them today! Tell me what you’re going to do?

The Grass is Always Greener

grass is always greenerThink about this…and be honest too! How often has this been proven true in your own life? I know it’s been my way of thinking in the past.

Is there anything wrong with this way of thinking? Not really….BUT….when you’re always looking over the fence – at something you don’t have and wishing you had it, you are wasting your life.

For some reason our perception of what’s “out there” on the other side, or, what we MIGHT be able to attain is more attractive than what we are experiencing right now.  Maybe our current situation is boring (or just “there” because nothing is different). We arrange our life in a way that’s comfortable to us. We all like routine and we like to have things in a certain way.

But then there is that part of our brain that thinks that something that’s “out there” is better than what we have. So we wish for that thing without knowing anything other than how it APPEARS from our distance. It’s judging a book by its cover and wanting to pick it up and buy it – without even reading on the cover or initial pages to see if it’s really something we’re interested in.

Did you ever order something you just “had to have” and then when you received it, it was no big deal? It wasn’t the “thing that changed the world” like it seemed when you ordered it – the “thing” you couldn’t live without.  I think it’s our anticipation of something and what we imagine it will be or what our lives will be like if we have it (or achieve if it’s a goal). We are very good at imagining but then there’s a let down when our “order” finally gets here.

There is a lesson from that last paragraph that’s so important to think about. If we can imagine how great our life will be or how great something will be, then we can enjoy our life right now even without actually having the “thing” in our possession. Abraham always talks about feelings and vibrations. You can capture the joyous feelings you experience when you think about having something and feel them in the “NOW”. It’s so important for us to live in the now and not always be waiting for the future or something to come in the future. Think about the happiness and joy of completing a goal. Close your eyes (when you’re done reading this of course…ha ha), feel how happy and satisfied you’ll be when you reach that goal. Actually feel it, feel the satisfaction and glow. Now absorb that deep into your soul. If you can feel that, then you can reproduce it any time you want. And you do NOT need to have actually achieved the goal or received the object to feel that way, do you? Once you’ve felt it, you can pull it back any time you want. Right NOW!

Don’t live for the future (the grass on the other side). Live in the NOW and enjoy your life NOW. Look around you and see how many people have had adversity fall upon them and as a result they have been derailed from pursuing all their goals and destinations. They are then forced to live in the NOW because as far as they know there may not be any tomorrow. When you go to bed, express your gratitude for all you’ve had and experienced during the day. When you wake up in the morning, the first thing you should do is to express gratitude for having awakened and been given another day.

Live each day for others and see what you can do to help others. There are so many people out there that are in pain and no one knows that. You don’t know who you are touching. Just a smile or a kind word can make a difference. Have you ever experienced that? When you’ve been down and things just not going right, you’ve received a smile or someone has said “thank you” or “how are you today” or just something that makes you think that there is at least one other person in the world that cares about you? I know I have. And the endorphins I experience either from being the recipient of that kindness (or even better being able to give the same to someone else) are not surpassed by anything. To be able to help others provides the greatest joy you can ever experience.

I can’t run right now and don’t know for how long I’ll be sidetracked. Someone on my Facebook page wrote that we always wish for rest when we can’t and when we have to rest, we wish we could be out doing the activity (my paraphrasing). And you know what? That’s so right. Instead of sitting here wishing I could run and feeling remorse for the events I’ll be missing, I must focus on the benefits of not being able to get out there. I am getting some better at this as my feet feel better and I can walk OK. It was more difficult when it hurt so much to just get up to walk to the bathroom or the kitchen. But, as walking becomes easier, I am taking the opportunity to alter my thinking every time I start feeling depressed and worried about not being able to run. I ask myself what am I supposed to be learning? There are so many things I can do now that I have the time I would be out training – get them done now and be happy. They are the tedious chores that I would normally put aside as I lace up my shoes. But now I have no reason to put them aside. So get them done and rejoice in that achievement.  I can work on my books. I have started to read again which I hadn’t done before. There are so many things I can do to feel fulfilled. I could also relive the events I’ve done in the past and take the feelings from them and be happy at that. The trick with that is to not then slip into remorse because I may not be able to  them again. I have to stop myself from thinking that way for two reasons. It ruins the moment but more importantly, I am likely to attract that situation. I just need to think about how well my feet are healing and how strong my mind and body are right now. I don’t want the Law of Attraction to bring me more inability to run. So, I’m working with it to bring me strength and capability. Slowing down, I think, has been the lesson for me in 2015. It’s time for me to relish that thought and think what it really means to me. I obviously haven’t learned well enough from it because it keeps being forced upon me. I need to delve deeper…..hmmmm

So, for at least a week, put the lawn mower away and don’t even look at the grass on the other side. Look at your own yard (life) and even if there are brown spots in the lawn, think about what you could do with that brown area. Think about the earth underneath it and what critters are living there.  Or even better, just look at what’s around the brown and be happy you have a yard no matter what it looks like. Many people in the world don’t even have a yard. Take a drink of clean water and be oh, so grateful that you have running clean water. So many people don’t. Think about how you can help others every single day. Make that your goal each day instead of thinking about what you “could” or “will” have ….eventually. Do it now and be in the now. It really makes a difference. In fact, try to define what the phrase “live each day to its fullest” means to you…and then go live that way – each and every day.

The grass really is NOT greener on the other side. It’s perfectly fine right where you’re standing so live it and love it. It’s yours and you should rejoice!

Join me on the journey to live in the NOW. We aren’t that good at that anymore but we can try to get back there. Are you game to try?

What To Do When Things Don’t Seem To Be Working Out

things not going your way 2This is continuation (of sorts) on this week’s post on How You Handle Adversity. Hopefully, if you handle that adversity well, it won’t get to this stage. But remember that perception is reality and if you don’t think things are going well or working out for you, they won’t be.

However, many years later you may reflect back on that time and realize that everything worked out perfectly and as it was supposed to. You could say that that’s quite a fatalistic approach to things but I don’t think so. I do believe we can make everything better even “on the fly”.

I look back at many times in my life where I thought “the end is here” (in my youthful dramatization) and several years later I understood that everything worked out exactly as it should. I think that happened because I tried to just march right through those events and make the most of them and then forget them. I tried not to dwell on any bad event for very long. This was way before I knew anything about metaphysics.

There was an easier way though – had I known.

Remember in my Terrie’s Trek Across Tennessee report how I recognized how important it is to stay present and stay IN the present. By doing that you avoid the “what if” this or that happens? When you enter into the “what if” mode, you can come up with all sorts of bad things….you can also come up with all sorts of good things if you come at it from a different approach. This is one of Abraham’s techniques that is excellent and helps you get into the proper vibration.

I am currently dealing with that “Things Don’t Seem To Be Working Out” scenario regarding my feet. It’s been way too long since the end of the race and I should have healed faster. After all, almost everyone else who participated in the event has been out running races already. I can still barely walk even though all this time has passed since it ended. Initially I was very worried. Worried that I would never be able to run again. I was obsessed with this. You see, running is one of the most important things in my life. And there would be a great void if I weren’t able to do it any longer. And then, there’s the “what am I going to do for exercise and keep the weight off” issue that always permeates a girl’s spirit and soul.

When I wrote my report and when I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by two folks, I really began to realize that these injuries are a gift. Often times we don’t know the meaning or value of a gift when first given but it later becomes apparent. I started to see how this problem was doing more for me than rapid healing would have done.

I was seeing how so many disabled people have to live every moment of every day. The empathy (and sympathy) I was garnering for them was of great value even though I’m not yet certain of how I will apply the info. I just know that I was meant to experience this and become aware.

I was also forced to realize that my life is too shallow. That I need to find other outlets and valuable ways to fill my time. My coaching program will be an excellent example of that. And I could be getting ready for it now while I’m healing. In other words, I do not have any excuse right now for not working on it since I can’t be out running.

I have much more time for my writing too. There are the two books that I’m working on. I have no excuses really but my procrastination has continued despite having the time.  Still have to figure that one out.

I started reading again too. I haven’t done that in a very long time. I especially am getting into the two books Ben exposed me too during the run. I have started “Infinite Jest” and am enjoying working my way through it. And of course, James Patterson came out with a new book right at this great time.

I’ve also learned more about essential oils. I was very interested in them before but now am working on the right combination for pain and inflammation. This has been a terrific exposure since I am much better at the “see one, do one, teach one” mode. If I can see the results (on my feet) then I can remember the techniques and combinations better in order to impart my knowledge to others.

For, I have realized that my role in life is to learn things and pass them on to others.  Just as we talk about needing to keep money in circulation (buying and selling vice saving and stuffing your money away) is the way to absolute abundance, the same goes for all we learn. It does no good to just learn something and store it away. We are compelled and obligated to pass it on to others. The human race is a social race and it is our responsibility to keep it that way despite all the dependence and reliance on technology.  What have you learned that you can pass on to others?

The attitude with which you view your situation is the key point in how they will turn out. If you view each problem with the “what am I learning from this?” or “what can I learn from this?” and “how can I apply this in my life for the best?”, you will have raised your vibration and you will be searching for the solution.

Remember to focus on the Solution, not the problem! If you focus on the problem(s), you will receive more of the problem and more of that attitude. But if you focus on the solution, you’ll raise your vibration and you’ll be on a different plane than problematic thinking and you’ll be much more likely to attract the solution and all the benefits.

When things don’t seem to be working out, just tell yourself that they will work out the way you shape them no matter what. The Law of Attraction is always working. You just have to manage it and turn your attitude and beliefs about this current situation into whatever positive you can. It’s not a “pollyanna” approach. It’s just accepting that you created the situation and now it’s your responsibility to accept it or shape it into something useful and valuable. You do that via your attitude and belief.

What’s going on in your life now? How can you view it differently? Let us know in the comment section. Repeat this phrase endlessly – “Everything always works out for me!”

Momentum Monday

momentum-monday1“It will be most helpful if you change your thoughts and emotions about a negative situation as quickly as possible and feel confident that the Law of Attraction will help everything work out for the best.” ~Frank Mangano

This is another great quote that focuses on a few things, one of the most important of which is awareness. Awareness that you’re having negative thoughts and emotions.  Not everyone can eliminate all negative thoughts forever. But everyone really can change them once the realize they are having them. This is awareness. It’s a bit helpful if you do a review at the end of every day and then can recognized that you had negative responses to situations. You can then think of ways that you could maybe respond differently in the future. This is a good start.

But, it’s even better if you can become aware of your thoughts and emotions as they happen. Again, you may not be able to change them right away (this takes practice especially depending on the severity of the situation) but you can note when they happen. This would be another great start. As you continue to spot them, you’ll soon find yourself wanting to change them because you don’t like the way you feel when your emotions and thoughts are on the upswing and you’re not down in the dumps.

You’ll go about finding situations and people that will help lift you back onto the “better feeling” wagon until you can do it yourself with techniques such as  “Reach For A Better Feeling Thought” that Esther and Abraham talk about. The primary idea behind that is that you find some thought that’s better than the one you’re having right now – it does NOT have to be a happy thought, just a better one. You can go from depression to anger even and that’s a better feeling thought. Just try to move up on the emotional scale.

For now, just try to be aware when your thoughts are less than those that make you feel good. Practice that for several days (or it may take you weeks but that’s ok too). When you’re ready to move on, you will. And you will see great results as the Law of Attraction brings you even greater benefits!
