Momentum Monday

You have to find a way to be all right with thriving because you are always going to want to thrive. The economy is moving forward in response to the desires of people. And depriving yourself of something does not make more money for someone else to spend. If there were not people who were purchasing things, then all of the people who are working at manufacturing and marketing them would have to find some other ways of making their living. There are so many people who innately want to thrive, who as soon as they begin thriving a little, begin imposing all of these exterior judgements about how much thriving is appropriate, “It’s appropriate to thrive that much, but not that much.” And you have to ask yourself, “At what point do I lose the balance of thriving?”

It is quite all right for you to want to be prosperous! Somehow we get indoctrinated in our childhood to think that when there are other folks who don’t have it very good, we shouldn’t be abundant. I think that the folks who taught us that also thought that we shouldn’t flaunt our prosperity if we were “fortunate” enough to have it. But, then if we feel we are hiding our prosperity, then there’s the sensation of guilt. See how it’s a no-win situation.

My advice, in the face of everything that we’ve learned as we grew up is to try to wipe out those beliefs (remember that a belief is just a thought you keep thinking over and over again) and replace them with beliefs that make more sense now.

  • What is your definition of prosperity and abundance? When you hear those words what do you think? Write the answers down.
  • At the top of a second piece of paper write down what you’ve been taught and what you’ve been thinking all your life about prosperity and abundance.
  • Draw two columns on that same page. Label one column “pros”  and the second column “cons”.
  • Fill in the two columns. It doesn’t matter how you phrase things because you’re the only one who’s going to see it. Often we don’t do something simple like this because of what I call “Fear of Critique”. In this case, we might be afraid that someone would think what we wrote was stupid or that things aren’t spelled correctly. Don’t worry about that because only you will ever see it.
  • Now look at the two columns and decide if you want to keep your definitions or create new ones.
  • If you want to create a new one, write it down below the list of pros and cons.

Now read your new definitions several times a day and keep reading them (it) until you begin to actually believe it.

Try that this week for me and let me know how it goes. Comment below.

It’s Not a Secret, It’s Not Magic, It’s A Way Of Life

secretEveryone who’s reading this page has undoubtedly heard about “The Secret”. This movie has received accolades and criticism continually. But, regardless of your opinion of it and its content, it did bring the Law of Attraction (and hopefully the other Universal Laws) to the attention of millions of people around the world.

Some have poo-poo’ed this entire concept. Some have tried to “apply” the Law of Attraction and have “failed” (their definition) and subsequently shunned it and it’s philosophies.

But then there is the group of people (and it’s a pretty large group) that has embraced the ideas expressed in “The Secret” and changed their way of  life. This is what it’s all about. It’s not about what you do in a few minutes or a few hours of each day. It’s how you live every moment of your life. And more importantly, it’s about how you think and feel every moment of every day. You can create the life you want if you realize that your every thought and every feeling is manifested by the Universe and if you continue to think and feel in the same way every day, you will then materialize what it is you’ve been focusing on.

I’m sure that folks reading this blog think that I’m just a broken record because I repeatedly talk about changing your vibration and your focus and explaining that what you are focusing on is what will come into your life. But, it’s true and I continue to try to give you different examples.

Using the word momentum is also intended to help you identify with something you’ve experienced previously. Look around you and see how things have gained momentum. Right now we’re experiencing protesting and violence because of an event in the South. The event occurred and then some people got up in arms (I am not debating legitimacy) about what happened and started protesting. The opposite side (the police) felt they had to get harsh in dealing with the protesting. Then the protestors got more enraged and things followed suit. See how the momentum evolved in that scenario. One event filled with emotional content spread and allowed others to absorb the momentum and vibrations emanating from those most closely involved.wizard_pose_400_clr_6238

On the other hand, think of how contagious a smile is. You can be in the worst of all possible moods and someone smiles at you and gives you a pat on the back and your outlook and attitude (aka vibration and feelings) changes dramatically.

Will you take a few minutes and write down 10 SIMPLE ways you can change your life starting with either 1 a day or 1 a week depending on how difficult you think the things you wrote down are. Here’s some examples and I’m sure you’ll have lots more. The whole idea is to change you momentum even if it begins slowly.

  • Smile at a stranger at least once every day
  • Catch and stop yourself from complaining about something even if you just have to stop in mid-sentence
  • Give a compliment to at least one person every day
  • Write in your gratitude journal every day (or at least start today)
  • Start your Book of Positive Aspects tonight and write 3 positive aspects about someone you’re having problems with or don’t like
  • Say “You’re welcome” instead of “no problem” – people don’t realize how that is actually disrespectful. When I thank you for something you’ve done for me, I didn’t think I was causing you any inconvenience. When you say “no problem” back to me, it’s almost like I should have been able to do it myself but you’re much better able to do it than I am. You can tell that’s a pet peeve I have – sorry.
  • Hold the door for someone even if you have to wait an extra minute
  • Offer to help someone across the street or offer to carry something for them (this, I guess, would depend on where you live – you don’t want people to think you’re trying to rob them…LOL)
  • Send a real letter to someone just to say “Hi”
  • Write someone a thank you note even if it’s a thank you for something in the past
  • Give someone a word of encouragement especially if you see them struggling

You can come up with many more things than this – tell us below what you’ve thought of.

Michael Hyatt Puts Up Another Winner!

I just had to link to this post by Michael Hyatt.

It’s called Don’t Quit Before The Whistle Blows

I encourage you to read the whole post but it’s about how we respond to setbacks and the bottom line is how we respond says at least 3 things about us:

  1. Our response builds our character. Very often in those moments where we are tempted to bail, our character is a stake. Character isn’t fixed. As Oscar Wilde said, it’s made and unmade by our decisions. When we push through difficulty and see things to the end, we’re developing our character in a positive way. When the urge to walk off the field comes—and it will—ask yourself what kind of person you want to be.
  2. Our response tests our true abilities. Whatever we think about ourselves or the future, if we walk off the track, we never really know what we’re capable of or what was truly possible.Kampf could have finished without giving it her all, and no one probably would have noticed—except her. Instead, she marshaled her strength and found out what her true potential was.

And it surprised her. “That last 50 meters, I hit a gear that I never knew I had,” she said. A setback can bring out our best if we’ll play full out regardless.

  3. Our response impacts others. Kampf wasn’t just running for herself. She was running for her team, for her school, for her family and community. The impact of her decision was far-reaching—even down to us discussing it today. There’s something at stake in every decision to stay in the game that goes well beyond ourselves. Quitting not only robs ourselves of needed character development and a deeper understanding of ourselves, it has an immeasurable impact on those around us.

Thanks to Michael Hyatt for this great Saturday piece.

Don’t Put On The Brakes (Don’t Give Up) – It’s Just Around the Corner

figure_prohibit_stop_400_clr_2495Sometimes we get on a roll and can easily keep that momentum going while things seem to be going well.

But then, we may hit a stumbling block (or more than one) and everything comes to a screeching halt. We may gradually slow down but often it’s like “hitting the wall” in a marathon. You just can’t go any further. You lose your incentive and desire to achieve what you set out to do. You feel that there’s no hope and that nothing will work. Much of this is because you’ve been going, going, going and may even be running on fumes now. You’ve been operating on adrenaline and motivation but when you hit a stumbling block, you’re very likely to hit the brakes and stop cold.

If this happens, pause and take a deep breath but don’t stop completely. It’s most likely time to reassess your vibrations. For some reason you have attracted this block. Remember that you attract everything in your life, not just the good things or the things you consciously ask for.

This happened to me in my Tennessee run. I have been working toward this for a year now. I had signed up for it about 10 months ago and everything I did since then was a part of training for it. I’d been derailed once before (in March of this year) when I had this unknown custom_text_pulling_a_wheelie_13463illness and was out of commission running wise for about 9 weeks. Then I was able to do a 3 day event and did “ok” there but knew that I was not ready. So, I spent the 5 weeks before the event trying to put together all that I should have been doing all year. I tried many different types of shoes (which messes up your gait) and I was training with a 15 pound pack which also has adverse effects on you. I increased my mileage way too fast. So what should I have expected? To do really well? Heck no. I ended up being injured (to the point where I couldn’t even walk) the week before I was supposed to leave for the event. Then when I got there and at the start of the race I tried to run and knew I couldn’t because my back was still bad. So it was all walking from the start to the point where I dropped. But when I wanted to drop (the 3rd night), I didn’t. I knew enough to sit back and regroup even though my pain was very severe that night. In the morning I felt ok enough to continue to try. Turns out I was way behind and realized that night that I couldn’t make the cutoff times. I also realized that it would be better for my long term health if I dropped then. So, yes, I did ultimately quit but I didn’t quit when my emotions were ruling me (the previous night). I evaluated the situation and continued on. Then I made an informed decision based on the facts (that I couldn’t possibly reach the cutoff point in time).

But why did all this happen? I have no idea what vibrations and thoughts I put out there to attract these events. But I do know that I did this to myself, no one else did. But instead of complaining about it and feeling cheated, I have spent the past 5 weeks working on all that I learned from this experience. I also have not run for those 5 weeks (until yesterday) and that is a different aspect of my life. Something I had to do in order to heal and as a result I learned that there is more in life than just running and I learned to do other things and be satisfied with doing them. So much has happened in the past few months that I have learned and decided that I do NOT want to waste a day (or a week or more) just waiting to be able to do something else (running in my case).

I have learned so much about what I did “wrong” or what I should have done differently during the run. And it will be so much help for next year. I also forged a valuable friendship that will never be marred and had I been able to run and continue on, I would not have had that opportunity. That relationship is so much more valuable to me than completing the entire 314 miles. I will be able to do it again.

So, don’t quit. Usually what you want really is just around the corner. Try to rest and take advantage of hitting the obstacle and see what opportunity it will afford you. Take some time to raise your vibration and get things back on track again.

Then start back up and you’ll see where you go from there. Your desire will materialize (it’s already manifested when you put out that desire, now it just has to manifest and that’s by you allowing it to come in).

Momentum Monday

momentum-monday1

Everything that has ever been lived, everything that has ever been written down or documented, has been vibration first. Everything has been conjured in vibration first before it manifests. So if something has manifested and you continue to give it your attention, the fact that it is true should really hold no weight with you. The question that we would ask is not, is it true, or is it undeniable? The question that we would ask is, how does it make me feel when I focus upon it? And if the answer to the question is, it doesn’t make me feel very good when I focus upon it, then we would say, true or not, it does not serve you. And if you will activate a different part of your vibration—the “truth” will shift.
—Abraham
Excerpted from the workshop: El Paso, TX on March 28, 2002

What’s the key here in Abraham’s wisdom? The fact that if you don’t like a circumstance that has manifested (materialized) in your life, then you should stop focusing on it and activate a different part of your vibration and things will change. This is what I refer to as calling up your Kodak Moment(s).

  • I recommend you make a running list of Kodak Moments – even keep them on index cards that you can keep with you if necessary.
  • Once you note that something isn’t to your liking, pull out your list and find one that really strikes a “feel good” chord right now (it might be a different moment each time or it might be the same one).
  • Focus on that moment for the longest time. Do NOT let your mind wander back to the thing you don’t like or want in your life.
  • You do NOT have to focus on getting rid of that materialization. If you focus on it, you’ll just make it stronger or bring more of it into your life. The idea is to replace it with things that make your vibration high and happy.
  • Use the phrases I love and use so many times a day:
    • “Everything always works out for me” (I have that on my phone and it pops up 3 times a day to remind me)
    • “Nothing and no one can interfere with my prosperity, peace of mind and well being, NOT even myself”
  • Think and do anything to keep your mind focused on experiencing the vibrations you want to feel. When you feel good, that will change your surroundings.

Enjoy your week!
