You cannot have a happy ending to an unhappy journey.

—Abraham

Excerpted from the workshop: Atlanta, GA on September 13, 1997

What a wonderfully simple statement this is.  If you don’t do something about your unhappiness, you will remain unhappy. Why is that? Because of the Law of Attraction. You attract what you focus on, what you spend your time thinking about. If that’s things or circumstances that make you unhappy, then that’s what you’ll get more of.  Why would you want to get more unhappiness? You wouldn’t intentionally do that I don’t think. But when your life’s thought patterns and beliefs have led you to focus on lack, illness, unhappiness, poor relationships, then that’s what the Law of Attraction will bring you more of. The Law of Attraction doesn’t even know what’s good or bad to you. It just brings you what you are focusing on.

So what do you do to change this? That’s not so easy by yourself and that’s why I continue to recommend getting a coach (a Life Coach, a Law of Attraction Coach, any type of coach). Your coach will help you identify what it is you are focusing on – often you’re not even aware of these things. But a coach will help you recognize what you’re saying, thinking and feeling. Once you can recognize the habits you are perpetuating, you have a much better chance of stopping them and redirecting your thoughts to more positive thoughts and feelings.

Retrieve one of the Kodak Moments I talk about all the time. Focus on that as soon as you notice you’re headed down an old pathway that will take you directly (or even indirectly) to your unhappiness. If you then focus on the Kodak Moment, then you’ll be able to direct your thoughts and feelings in the happiness direction.

Write down your Kodak Moments in a journal or on an index card where you can have them handy in case things are so rough you can’t just recall them from memory. Once you start to feel icky, pull out your card and then select one to use at this particular time to feel better. Keep focusing on that and repeat the phrase “Nothing and no one can interfere with my peace of mind, prosperity and well being, not even myself”.

Try it this week!

Divine Wisdom

divine wisdomYou can be a success if you rely on Divine Wisdom. Often when we’ve done something that hasn’t turned out exactly like we would have wanted, we think back and say something like “I just knew that wasn’t the right thing to do” – that means you didn’t listen to Divine Wisdom.

What is Divine Wisdom? People call it different things but it’s the Universal Mind which knows all. It can also be considered your inner source, your connection to the universe.  Your source is that connection to all that there is and your source knows  what is the correct course of action for you.

You hear me talk about always saying “Show me the way”. You can use this when you’re not certain what to do or you can use it all the time. This simple statement will guide you and give you the answers that you are looking for.

I did this when I was trying to figure out what to take with me for my Tennessee run. I packed and repacked and just couldn’t decide. So, I took a few minutes, a few deep breaths and said out loud “show me the way”, “show me what pack I should take and whether I should check my bag or try to cram it all in for carry-on”. Then I sat for a bit in silence and let the answer come to me. After that, I acted without indecision.  I realized that I would deal with whatever came to me once I had made my choices after “consulting” with the Universe (Divine Wisdom).  I love that peaceful feeling once I know I have received the correct information.

We second guess ourselves way too much.  Whenever you find yourself doing that, do what I did. It only takes a few seconds and you will be surprised at how calm you feel when you’re done. As you divine-wisdom1feel that sensation, you will know you’ve made the right decision.

Some people call it intuition or their “gut” feeling. I’m sure there are other names it’s called but it all boils down to the same thing – your source will speak to you if you ask it.

I frequently also use the phrase “Let the Truth Be Revealed” – this is one I use when I’m not really after an immediate answer but want to know what is going on with a situation or if I want others to see the truth of a situation. But you certainly can use it to assist you perhaps with more complex scenarios that you’re not sure how to maneuver.

The key point to all of this is that you know that there is an energy outside of you (although it is also within you) that will provide you with the answers you need when you are uncertain about something. Just as you do when you’ve used contrast to figure out what you want, you simply have to ask for the answer.

Are You “Killing Time”

are youkilling timeIf you remember how important our words are, you’ll immediately see the problem with this age-old phrase. To your subconscious “killing time” indicates that time is bad and you want to destroy it.

That is usually NOT what we want with time. Usually we want MORE time. To talk and think about getting rid of it, not only decreases the amount we have available (actually it’s what we perceive we have available since time is not something we control – our use of it is, however), but also puts us back in the “lack” mode.

We don’t want to be in lack mode for anything – whether it be love, happiness, time, money or anything.

The other issue with this phrase is that it implies you really do have a lot of time on your hands (the opposite of lack but your subconscious hears lack) and you’re not doing anything with it. Go back to the post about living day to day and see if you want to revise what you’re doing and what your purpose in life is.

Pay attention to your words. Words lead to thoughts and then to feelings. Your subconscious mind hears words and interprets them in the way you most commonly think of them. I bet the subconscious really loves the English language with all the various meanings for many words..ha. When you say “I can’t afford…..” the subconscious doesn’t necessarily pay attention to what words follow. It just hears lack and poverty from the “I can’t afford”. So, to it, that is what you are focusing on – poverty/lack. Even if you were going to say “I can’t afford the time away from work to go do x, y, z”, your subconscious mind didn’t get that far. It stopped with the “afford”.

When you are talking about killing time, you are indicating you don’t like time – why else would you want to kill it? You’re talking as if you want to “get rid of more time” by killing it. I don’t think that’s what you’re really trying to do though. You want to spend your time doing things you like to do.

Don’t substitute “spending time” either because your subconscious mind thinks you’re talking about money still. Many folks associate “spending” with money and unless you are in a great vibrational state with your money, you might not want to put the two together inside your mind. “Spending” can also indicate losing it or giving it away and then you’ll be left with the internal feeling that you don’t have enough time.

Instead of “killing time”, elaborate on what it is you’re doing.

  • “I have plenty of time on my hands and I choose to be doing x, y, z with that time”.
  • “I am using my time to bring me closer to my goal of x”.
  • “I have an abundance of time and I choose to use it as a tool achieving my purpose in life.”

I’ll close with the adage that your mother really did know what she was talking about when she said “choose your words wisely” and “Think before you speak”!

Momentum Monday

Whatever you’re thinking about is literally like planning a future event. When you’re worrying, you are planning. When you’re appreciating you are planning… What are you planning?
Abraham

“What are you planning” asks Abraham.  And Abraham means “what are you thinking about?” Are you contemplating success and prosperity and health? Or, are you thinking about debt, illness and failure? What are the predominant thoughts going through your head?

Take this week to pay strict attention to what is going in and out of your mind. Even if they are fleeting thoughts, record them. Make a list of general thought patterns such as “prosperity”, “success”, “happiness”, “love”, “peace of mind”, “worthiness”, “health (NOT healing but “health”) and what other topics you normally think about. Then make two columns and give the columns opposite names. As an alternative you could list the opposites further on down the list but then you’re more inclined to think about them. Try something like “yes” for one column and “opposite” for the name of the other column. I’m sure you can come up with something that will meet your needs.

Throughout the day put a tick mark on the paper as you have a thought in each of the categories – put the tick mark in the column that corresponds to the type of thought you had. You may have to make a lot of ticks to keep up with all the thoughts you have during the day but try to record as many as you can. Be honest about it. Don’t just “remember” to do it when you’re having a good thought. Record them all if you can. The goal of this practice is to see what patterns you have.

At the end of each day, count up the tick marks and see what has happened during your day. Were you mostly positive or did you stray over to the less than positive side more? No one is going to see this but you so be honest and make a proper assessment at the end of the day. Then decide what direction you want the next day to go in. Once you’ve tried this, you’ll be more conscious of your thoughts and will most likely find yourself catching your thoughts in the middle of the day and even changing them. It’s ok if you have to put a tick mark down in order for you to make the change because the whole point is to ultimately have the majority of the marks in the direction/column you want.

Remember what we started off with – you are planning events when you think things so make sure these are events you want to attend and even ones you want to invite other people to!

Try this simple exercise and let me know if it helps you be aware of your thoughts. Then move on to how you feel when you have these thoughts. That would be the next step. Do you have anxiety, do you smile, do you enjoy what you’re doing more, etc. Record your feelings after you’ve gotten the hang of this!

Make Up Your MIND!

should-i-or-shouldnt-iStop fluctuating back and forth! Remember that the Universe brings you whatever you ask for but in order for you to receive it, you have to be in a space where you’re ready to receive it and allow it into your life. If you can’t make up your mind, the Universe creates what you have asked for but never gets a chance to deliver it because by the time it’s at your doorstep ready for the bell to ring with your “delivery”, you’ve changed your mind.

Decide what you want and then get specific. I’ve always used the easy example of a car. Let’s say you want a new car. Decide the brand (Ford, Chevy etc), then the model, then the color and all the features you want in the car (air conditioning, electric windows, heated seats, sunroof, seats that fold into the floor, enough space for my cargo (or my kids), etc). Go through everything you want in the car and write it down.

Then, if you can, go to a car dealer, get in a new car and breathe deep so you can get that new car smell fixed in your mind. If you see the car you want in the color you want, take a picture and put it on a story board. If you don’t see it in the lot, see if you can find one on the internet and print out that car’s picture. Then keep visualizing that car. Don’t switch next week to another type of car. It’s ok to keep adding features but stick to the basics.

Same goes if you want health. Do NOT think of healing because that reminds you and the Universe that you are sick and not whole…just as thinking about paying off your bills is actually thinking about lack. That is a major error that people have when they are working with the Law of Attraction. Yes, you want your bills paid off but do not think of the act, instead you can think of going to your mail box or your email and only getting ads or letters from friends. You don’t think about what’s missing (the bills), you think about what you are getting. You feel the peace of mind when you do go to your mailbox or open your email. You don’t have that dread and anxiety that you might now or might while you’re even paying them off.

But, back to health. See yourself in the healthy body you want. The weight you want, looking the age you want, being as fit as you want, accomplishing the physical activities you desire to accomplish. Find photos of athletes doing these things and visualize the beauty in yourself. See yourself as whole and healthy, full of energy and happiness.

Do not go back to the other side as it were. Once you’ve decided what it is you want in whatever aspect of your life you want it, then stick to that completely.

Make up your mind, be specific about what it is you want, list all the criteria and then stick to it. It will come to you! That’s the way the Law of Attraction works. You just have to do your part!
